This review is for the SALSA options ONLY -- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Quick reviews by day: Monday: 1/5, used to be okay, but the crowd got stolen by Rokkit Room.  Pretty beginner-intermediate-y last time I went there, and the live band was horrible (not sure if that's a regular thing).  Last few times I went it was dead by 11.  I'll update if it gets better. Wednesday: 2/5, hit-'n-miss, there's a bit of every skill level but the highest (who all go to El Valenciano) to dance.  There's some sort of pizza buffet they offer but I find it kinda jarring when combined with salsa. Thursday: 4/5, "Dancer Night".  THIS is what people think when they say Cafe Cocomo Salsa Night. Great live bands, lots of people of all skill levels (trends intermediate to advanced), and PACKED!  The dance floor really livens up from 11-1am and I'd consider that prime time to get in my good dances.  A li'l drunk, a li'l sketch at times for girls I hear but not terrible. Saturday: 3/5, it's like Thursday night but with 50% more alcohol and 50% less dancers!  Nice for casual hookups and partying but not really for me as a dancer who wants to dance.

Ignore Nicole K's review. She was there, what, one night? and assesses a 1-star? I don't recall ever paying $12 for a well drink there. I've gotten drunk there and I don't carry enough cash to pay $12 per drink and get drunk. Bootie-SF is a classic SF scene and among the best places to go out dancing in the city. Pros: Eclectic friendly crowd of mixed gender/orientation/race, plenty of people who actually want to dance, they're open until 3:30am!, there's a crepe stand across the street, they do amazing mashups and music-focused art for which San Francisco is famous. Cons: Occasional people like Nicole K. But that happens everywhere. $12 cover is not steep for a club of this type in SF, but it is still $12. Definitely worth it! I just don't go every Sat.

Stephy...  I think we were probably there the same night for the same event (The Rocco DeLuca/Kiefer Sutherland/movie premiere/concert thing?) But I had a much better night than you did... I agree that the line/list situation was a totally unorganized clusterfuck, and there seemed to be a lot of pissed-off folks (Stephy probably among them) but we were lucky and got through that mess right away. My friends who showed up later got caught up in the clusterfuck though, and even though they were on the list, got charged the same $25 that Stephy referred to in her review) Once upstairs, we camped out around a couple patio tables near the outdoor barcart that was serving up free vodka & energy drinks (gotta love those sponsors!) then worked our way inside, soaked up the very cool modern, upscale atmosphere of the place (i especially loved the unusual ceiling treatment), saw a great set by Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, met Kiefer Sutherland, drank a lot more free vodka, got wasted enough to actually dance, met a lot of interesting people, and basically felt like a VIP all night... there was even a zippo boy who gave me a free zippo lighter! I had an amazing time that night! So if I had such an amazing time, why only 4 stars instead of 5? Because I know that if I weren't lucky enough to be on the "right" VIP list and get there before they started charging everyone $25, I could have had a much different experience. I attribute my amazing night more to my good friends that were with me and kept me laughing (not to mention the vodka and energy drink sponsors) than the venue itself... I need to go back on a "regular" night instead of some invite-only event. Once I do, I'll be back here with an update
