Well okay, I can see most rateclubsers despise this place. I however, don't. I've been coming here for years and its pretty much always a blast. Lots of birthdays attended here and lots of ridiculous drunken times have been had here. I particulary like this pub because 1) its not downtown 2) there's an "older" crowd if you will so that means TONS of exceptional people watching 3) LIVE MUSIC. On a night when you and your friends don't feel like messing with the hassle of going downtown and a) finding free parking and b) not fighting on which bar to bar hop to next because you've got your one spot for the entire night. And trust me, this place is big enough to find at least ONE thing to entertain you if you're not feeling like getting completely smashed. The clientel is usually from all walks of life. You're bound to find someone entertaining to talk to if you're trying to meet people. And its easy enough here to come up to the "challenge" of finding someone to prey on to buy you drinks. This place seems to always be jam packed no matter what night it is. On my most recent venture I came up here on a Thursday, pretty early I'd say. And it was hopping as usual. Great cover band playing all your favorites you either hear all the time or haven't heard in decades. I also like that I don't have to drive around for an hour and then park on a sketchy back street. Ample parking. I'm pretty sure this venue is the same building where U R Cooks used to be way back in the day. This place may be a chain, and I have been to one in Dallas and the Austin one tops it most definitely. But I am rather fond of this chain. I've also eaten here on occasion and it was rather tasty and when the weather was good we sat outside and chatted, drank cheap beers for happy hour and enjoyed the food. So stop hating rateclubsers. And pull that stick out of your ass. And bring a fun group of friends with you. But I always have a good time, even if only come with one person. Its all about your attitude ,and if you're willing to have a good time.

Not sure if it's fair to rate this place since it was during a rateclub/Aperol/Skyy event, but I'm gonna anyway. First of all, to placate all the Medjool goers who had bad experiences, I made SURE to take full advantage of all the free food and drinks tonight in your honor ..... "hoooo" (hair flip ala Cher), and I think I left part of a veggie kabob in an inconspicuos place for the staff to find at a later date but that was purely accidental.  (Though Medjool un-fans - feel better now?) It's cool that there are multiple levels in this place, but I still felt like it was uncomfortably crowded at times due to the fact that much of the upstairs space is really narrow.  it got too friggin' hot in there for me, so I headed upstairs to check out the roof deck which had pretty nice views of downtown.  But then I got cold.  Women, right? I think it might be worth eating dinner here as the place is cool and the actual dinner menu food looked yummy; bar-wise, I wasn't extremely impressed.  I know the alcohol was free tonight but bartenders, but your service was slow and not exactly friendly. Overall:  Medjool:  good try, but "meh."

The place is pretty but the price is high. The staff has always been cool especially compared to places like 1015. When I come to Ruby Skies, I do it on friday nights for the Remedy parties. Guestlist is free before 11pm, which is easy to get on (though they may have changed it to $5 recently). I love deep soulful house and the Remedy parties are THE place for it. Patrick Wilson, Kascade, etc, man...this is it. Bring out the bongos and it's a done deal. For no more than $5?! And minimun dress code? Gotta love it. You can't get in looking like a thug but you don't have to be dressed up either (only on Remedy nights) which is cool cause I'm there to dance, not post up by the bar and look cool. Just so ya know, there's no way I'd come here on a regular night where cover ranges from $25+. Hell no, we won't go. On a regular night I'd go to Milk (in the Haight) or Club 6 (ghetto but good dancin). For the Remedy nights alone I'd give this place a 5 but all things considered it has to go to a 3.
