I met up with 14 friends early this evening. to enjoy happy hour pizza and drinks tonight. When the bill arrived, I was charged full price for a pizza that I was told was half price during happy hour. When I brought this up to the waitress, I was dismissed and treated rudely, acting like I was stupid for not understanding the menu. She then referred to the manager, who treated me with even more contempt. We paid our bill in full and left. Needless to say I will not be coming back to this restaurant or any of the other establishments owned by the same company (El Chile, Chilito, etc). I have been a patron of these establishments for over five years, but now I see how much they truly value their customers, and refuse to support them any longer.

I find it funny my friend practically begged me to go to the Improv with him because he wanted to see this comedian he's a fan of when the guy ended up having the worst set of the night. I would have gone anyway, since I had actually never been to a comedy club before (not a real one anyway), even living in LA my entire life & being a fan of comedy :/ The place looked almost deserted when we arrived, but then I remembered that there are people inside. Melrose Ave itself seemed deserted as well, even on a Friday December night, so finding street parking was surprisingly easy. While waiting in line to go in, I spotted Seth Green and his lady friend exiting. I almost didn't think it was him, mainly because he looked so short! But when he went back inside in the bar it was definitely him. I mean, he really is short! Wow! Anyway. When we were let in, there's a small bar, and then we're led to the stage at the back. I liked looking at the wall for photographs of famous comedians who have performed here over the years, from Sarah Silverman to Jerry Seinfeld to Jay Leno. I don't know why I like looking at stuff like that. But anyway, both the building itself and the performance area are way smaller than it appears on TV, or print, YouTube, or whatever. I thought it was general admission, but it turns out the waiter had my friend and I sit all the way over to the side where almost no one was for a good 10 minutes. Our view of the famous "IMPROV" backdrop was blocked. I could not see it at all. I was slightly crushed. Plus my fat ass had to sit on a stool which was slightly uncomfortable most of the show. At least I sat right next to where all of the comedians cross to get to the stage. The host sat right behind me most of the time when he wasn't performing. The menu: alcohol (I don't really drink, so no orders for me there), bottled water, and some dessert. I, of course, ordered a New York cheesecake which was good, but it tasted like any other cheesecake and I immediately regretted spending money. The bottled waters were like, $5 each, I think! My friend ordered one and the waiter later apologetically told us that he HAD to buy 2 more to cover the minimum. The tip was included in the check, too. Our total came out to $25 after buying only 3 bottled waters and a cheesecake. For some reason I forgot the tip was included and only put in $20 or $21 or something, but when the waiter came back he told us not to worry about it. Phew! I never say "phew" but, you know...I don't know. I would go here again, but I definitely won't order any food or drinks unless I am starving or beyond thirsty. I would also like to go here again and see a performer who isn't an unfortunate disappointment :(

I forgot how lucky I am to have this place a few blocks away. The food- delish, the owners- so genuine. THE WALLPAPER- out of this world!! At first, I intended on having my Rateclub be exclusively about the wallpaper... So recently, I was also reminded about Waziema's night scene. Friends gathered to have a creative holiday party there..and what a great choice it was! The back area had a dj set up, and a tiny dinner nook transformed into a mistletoe-hung kissing booth. Of course, I'll go there for the cheap all-you-can-eat vegetarian options...and the multitude of beverage choices. the wallpaper- that's a given. BUT, now, Waziema has become a favorite neighborhood night spot. (look for me, i'll be the one in the corner licking the walls)
