by Jeremy W. on The most recent stop on my tour of Austin establishments, I joined a coworker here for Thursday happy hour. An interesting place with a nice sized outside seating area, it looks like a strip club from the front because of it's lack of windows. Little dd I know, the bar is in the back and the pizza place is in the front. Overall, it's a great happy hour spot when it's not too hot and the beer is cheap - $34 for the two of us for 3+ hours of cocktails. I didn't eat, but for Austin pizza, it didn't look too bad. The specialty margarita my coworker had looked VERY interesting (spicy). The reason this review was bumped from a 4 to 5 ... The service. The waitress was attentive, personable and, as a bonus, attractive. If you're looking for something a little off the beaten path and in an Austin neighborhood-like area, check out Red House. REVISING: Since I didn't eat here, went during the day and I've been exposed to additional bars in Austin, I'm revising my rating to a 4...
by Blossom Strausberg on Went on a Thursday night at 22.30 to see Amel Larrieux. She played for almost 2 hours. Great performance, great audience and great atmosphere. The $5 drink minimum is no problem as drinks start at $8. Service was good. Table setting is tight, everyone is sitting opposite of each other. Seems strange at the start but you get used to it quickly. My first visit couldn't have been better.
