by Bailey C. on Ok...I am guessing it was a sense of nostalgia that led us to Genki this week. I remember a few years ago this place was pretty durn good. Alas...those days are no more. Valet...Very nice, but the lot layout means it is a pain (especially in the rain) On to the dining! My order: Spicy Tuna Roll - ugh, spicy, no...sickeningly sweet, check - Grade F Snapper Nigiri - again...UGH. overly fishy, not impressive - Grade D- Sauted Beef Noodle bowl with Glass Noodles - not the least bit impressive. Unspectaular. Beef was a strange consistency somewhere between strips and ground beef. Veg was ok. overall flavor grade D. Wife was marginally more impressed with her beef bowl with ramen. Service was adequate, the waiter seemed a bit more interested in chatting up his blonde co-workers. I am not at all impressed, likely won't be back unless someone tells me things have changed significantly. PS a stop by Kroger on the way home for some pink bismoth...usually a bad sign. No stars should be an option.

Great music, a decent / cool crowd (including the fairly typical celebrity sighting -- in my case, Derek Jeter), impressive interior / ambiance, and just good times. But on my latest visit (this past Sat night for a bachelorette party), it was a complete let-down and disappointment. Here's how the evening progressed: 1) pulling up and seeing the usual line with all sorts of characters and outfits which makes me wonder, "how the hell is (s)he going to get in here??" and "how much are they paying to get in?" and "is this really worth my time?" 2) the usual hassle / attitude from the door guy, which always leads me to wonder, "who the hell is this guy checking me up and down and talking to me in a condescending manner?" and "why must i kiss ass to losers like this?" 3) we get in w/ our "connection" (some "in" through a friend's boyfriend's brother's friend's promoter friend... yep, that many degrees of separation still managed to get a group of 8 girls in w/o paying a cover nor getting table service) 4) wait to check in coats and pay $3 for each individual item though all items can easily fit on one hanger -- i hate that 5) wait almost 20 minutes to get overpriced drinks at the bar 6) spill about half the drink while we shove/ push/ squeeze by to stake out a decent place to scope out the scene... as a waitress aggressively pushes by one of my friends and bitches her out that she's in the way... ummm... hellllllo... who is NOT in the way? we're all packed in like sardines and you expect not to get pushed?! dumb waitress... 7) go downstairs and try to find an open area to get our drinks on and dance a bit... hardly any open space anywhere but manage somehow to find a bit of space. accidents during the process: friend breaks her heel and another friend has a drink spilled all over her back 8) after several drinks, visit to the ladies room... loooong ass line (why can't women hurry it up in public bathrooms!? ladies, please... take care of business and let's minimize primping when the line has more than 15 ppl waiting). in line are a few girls who obviously can't handle their alcohol... my poor friend was an unfortunate innocent bystander and ended up with some barf on her arm (ewwww) 9) given the above incident, along with some undesirable guys lingering around, we decide to move elsewhere 10) as we exit the club, despite all the shit we put up with during the night, i know i'll be back for some reason at some point down the road....
