by nick e. on I've been looking for a bar like this for quite some time. LA seems to be lacking in dive bars- and having just moved here from Kentucky- the glitz and glamour of the main gay bars in weho- here, abbey, mickey's, etc can seem to be a bit over the top. The go go boys and nearly naked bartenders, while pleasant, get old- not to mention high cover prices and expensive drinks. Contrary to belief, just because this bar skews a little older doesn't mean its creepy or predatory. I'm not saying that stuff doesn't exist- but it's certainly not something to worry about or use in factoring a decision of whether to attend or not. 5 dollar well drinks- not to mention pours are heavier here than anywhere I've seen in LA. 3 gin & tonics and I was good to go. I must say- while I'm 24 and look like a "hollywood type", I prefer this type of establishment over any of the other gay bars in the area. It's basically west hollywood minus everything that gives west hollywood a bad rep.
by Daina Chiado on This place is fun if you bring a date. I'm a single guy, so I go to the dance lesson. It's all couples that go, so I'm totally left out. There are a few Stags like me around, and they are all ready to kick your ass to get a dance partner before you. It's not a friendly vibe, so I generally stay away from this place.
