Since the day I moved to this city, I have been dying to go here. The hype alone is enough to put one into a food coma. So after cashing in my Open Table points (you may think I'm cheap, but I think I'm clever), I gathered up the boyfriend and finally had the pleasure of dining at the Iron Chef's spot in Philly. I took the advice of a friend and sacrificed the trendy appeal of a table for the behind-the-scenes appeal of seats at the sushi bar and I'm so glad I did. I was in awe watching these chefs turn some of the highest quality ingredients into delectable presentations of sushi, sashimi and the like. The variety of the menu proved to be an obstacle to the indecisive person that I am, but my date and I finally decided on: 1.The Hamachi appetizer, which was fantastic and simple, as it should be. The fish was amazing and the jalapenos were a great compliment. I was also pleasantly surprised at the portion size. 2. Pieces of the Oh-toro sushi, which were GLORIOUS! I eat sushi and ceviche all the time, but this was probably one of the best pieces of fish that I will ever have in my life. The fattiness, freshness and quality of the tuna were amazing. 3. Soba Carbonara-bacon, parmesan, scallops, truffle? That sells itself with just those four words. It was delicious, though such a heavy dish for a hot day. I'm sure it would have been better appreciated during the colder days of winter. 4. 10 Hour Pork, which was very yummy. I'm in love with pork and the rice porridge was a nice textural compliment. 5. Chilean Seabass with blackbean sauce, which was "OMG!" worthy. The fish was cooked perfectly. The blackbean sauce on top was amazing and the flavor was unexpectedly a phenomenal compliment to the seabass. I could have done without the giant side of plain white rice though. 6. The Black Cod Miso, and alas, this was the big disappointment of the night. First off, I don't understand why this dish is even on the menu. This is not a good reflection of a world renowned chef and is definitely not up to Morimoto standards. The flavors just didn't work for me. To make it worse, my bf found not one, or two, but several fish bones left in his cod. This had the potential to ruin our experience because you don't expect that from a restaurant of this caliber. Luckily the manager gracefully, professionally and generously salvaged the dinner and situation. Cheers to him, I wish I could remember his name! The atmosphere is super cool and unique and the service was great. I was very surprised at how large the portions were. Typically, at high end restaurants like this, I expect big prices and little portions, which is why I think we ordered so much. It ended up being way too much food for two people, so next time I return (which I hope will be soon) I will order less. P.S. I still think Jose Garces'  food is better  =)

whenever I walk in or even by Continental Midtown the old Beastie Boys classic starts playing in my head: Girls, all I really want is girls And in the morning it's girls Cause in the evening it's girls I like the way that they walk And it's chill to hear them talk And I can always make them smile From White Castle to the Nile ... Pretty good food, cool atmosphere (especially on the roof), awesome drinks but the real draw is the scene. pretty girls and boys play dress-up, get drunk, and have awkward conversations. if that's what you're looking for - by all means go to Continental. Ask for table 137 which happens to have the best view of the place: order some fruity drinks and over-priced apps, and socialize.
