by Mayme Colebrook on I'd love to meet the individual or team that designed the seating in the Orpheum Theatre. Did they not bother to sit in the seats before ordering or laying them out?! I've been to more than a hundred venues across the US and Canada and this venue has to be the worse for seating. Why on Earth would you place TWO cupholders in back of a seat TOGETHER with so little space or leg room? I am 6 feet tall and it was the most uncomfortable experience EVER. My seat was Orchestra C18. I'd love to see the designers and/or someone from the Orpheum, Goldenvoice, or Bill Silva sit in this seat. Send me a pic please! I felt robbed. Even though we were in the 3rd row from the stage, I would've rather stood the entire evening. It was that bad. I've had more leg room on airplanes, buses, and amusements rides. What the hell?! Whoever designed the seating must be Mini-Me or Yoda. My knees made love to the cupholders the entire evening. You can tell that they wanted to cram as many bodies in there as possible. Someone else commented on how it's not easy to sit in these seats, let alone, let someone pass you to get to theirs. The seat padding is also awful and the back padding was so uncomfortable. I squirmed the entire evening. Anyone 6' and up should expect the same. I feel that they should disclaim to ticket holders that they should plan to hump TWO cupholders for a couple of hours (as if one cupholder isn't bad enough). I wanted to kick those cupholders off the molding. Anyone that says this is the best venue Downtown is sadly mistaken. That award goes to CLUB NOKIA for best sound, line-of-sight, and execution. While the theatre may look grand and enchanting inside, the cramped seating takes away any good feedback for me. I don't plan to return. When you're seeing someone intimate like Ray or Zero 7, bad seating like the Orpheum's deflates the experience. I expect more from a venue that is charging me almost $90 for two tickets. Some venues disclaim "limited view" and I think this one should disclaim "limited leg room."
