At Mr. Flay's Burger Palace, I feel like I am in heaven. I get my Anchor Steam (OH SF, I miss you...I love these little reminders of you in beverage form). I get my burger delivered like a piece of modern art. The "bus boys" are freaking rad. I don't even know if you would call them "bus boys". I'm pretty sure they're more like MY NEW BEST FRIENDS. One of them came and sat with us and discussed our food, my boyfriend's faster-than-the-speed-of-light eating capabilities (ridiculous), and whatever else happened to pop into his head at the moment. Best friends. The burger. Good god. Such a good burger. If you don't like yours well seasoned, this isn't the place for you. We both got the LA Burger. It was served with cheddar cheese, watercress, and an avocado relish. Delicious. You can pick how you want your meat cooked, what kind of meat you want, and whether or not you want your burger "crunchified" with some potato chips. There are all kinds of condiments on the table for you (THEY GIVE YOU CHOICES)!  I decided to keep it simple, just adding ketchup and mustard...no chips. It was phenomenal though. I was unable to fit fries or one of those spiked milkshakes into my tummy, but perhaps next time I'll try. They both looked great. I have to admit, I'm pretty glad I live on the other side of the river from this place, because it takes me 40 minutes to walk there and if I'm going to be eating these burgers as much as I plan to, I'm going to need some serious exercise. A full 15 hours later and my tummy is still thanking me. Side note: Seating is a bit tight. Get over it. Side note #2: the place looks like a giant hamburger on the inside. Anyone else notice that? Heaven.

Hey, I loved it. Including Teddy's and Tropicana (reviews for those towards the bottom). The room had a contemporary/minimalism feel to it. You wouldn't be able to tell though because the room is very small (unless you opt for a more expensive room).  A large unframed mirror propped against the wall, dark wood furniture, and a large black and white photo of David Bowie as the center piece of the room give it a chic feel. OK, so that's a little more rock n roll than chic, but still -- it was fantastic seeing it. I only had two real complaints. One is that there isn't a sliding glass door or curtain for the shower. Instead, there is this modernly cut glass that covers only half of the shower area. Needless to say, water got everywhere. I should also mention that the bathroom is TINY. My second complaint is that the phone lines worked when it wanted to. Now, I have read that is one of the "haunted" parts of the hotel -- but who knows really? Other than that, the hotel is gorgeous and a complete reminder of old Hollywood with a modern twist. Tropicana: Of the two times I have been there, I was really drunk. Now, you can choose to take my review or leave it, but I loved it. As a female, I had no trouble walking in. For anyone else, you can either lie and say you are a hotel guest and pretend you are pulling out a key card, or you can show up with hot ladies. If not, wait in line -- just know that it is a little hard to get in. My friends and I showed up and went ahead of this couple who had been waiting in the nonexistent line. The drinks are good but pricey. If you're lucky, you will find men who will willingly hand you cash simply because you are beautiful. They won't even tell you their name because they know you won't remember the next day -- and no, you don't have to sleep with them. The music, on the days I went, were cheesy. Nothing great. I had a great time though. It is absolutely beautiful on summer's night, sitting by the pool (which by the way, features a mural at the bottom) and drinking with friends. Teddy's: It is true, it isn't as hot as the Bolthouse owned clubs, but it still holds its own. Why else would you find Lindsay stumbling out in the beginning of the summer? Recently, the mess that is Britney Spears showed up with Criss Angel. Perhaps stars choose to go to Teddy's because it no longer has the high profile places like Les Deux has. Less chance of running into overly dressed hot things who claim they "know the promoter." Back to the review, though Teddy's is a lot harder to get into, it can be done! I've been there more than once, and no, I do not have huge breasts. Your best bets are to, again, show up w/a few female friends, or order bottle service. Teddy's is a lounge, so it caters to those who are willing to drop serious dough on alcohol. If you choose not to have bottle service, drinks are still pricey -- but it is expected. Inside you feel as if you have stepped into an exclusive lounge that only the hip folks know about. The decor isn't overly pretentious: heavy curtains, leather couches, candles, oil paintings -- all very old Hollywood. Of the times I have been there the DJs have not disappointed me. Mixing a few old school favorites with current dance hits, you will not grow tired of dancing. What's best is that it gives you a break from dancing in hot, crowded clubs. An intimate setting allows for good times, and a chance to dance alongside party girls you never dreamed of standing next to. The service and security guards are super nice. Perhaps more perks of being female. But seriously, you don't have to dress like a complete slut to be treated nicely. Hold yourself well, you will be treated well.
