no cover is a good thing, even if it means dancing in what feels a bit like a (hot and crowded) basement!  the music was fun (usher, u2, madonna and the beatles were among the musical choices), but i thought the people-watching was more fun (as the crowd is super mixed here, especially for the city!) note: don't wear nice shoes here!  there was a lot drink dropping...

A large group of us went here as an after "memorial service" party, you heard me right, we went here after having a "somber" moment of reflecting on a "loved" 1's passing in a tragic car accident. DOOD,  this could ONLY happen in California - where thoughts of clubbing permeate even into a memorial service. Anyway, so after the cat-call went out to depart the memorial service and per some dood who used the excuse "to party like how David would have wanted us to party to celebrate his life and death"  we all piled into several cars and headed over to the club (my car being 1 since I offered to be designated driver since the last thing we needed was another auto death). So, we get to the club, get a table and it's a cool joint - it's totally redesigned. They got rid of the bar on your left as you enter and got rid of the banister and red decor and made the inside more earthy tone and added tons of book shelves (w/ books LOL) and put a bar in the middle (the bar in the way back is still there tho). The drinks aren't expensive I nursed a double Maker's on the rock and cost $13 so about $6.50 a shot - not great but I've been to clubs where shots cost like $10-$12 bucks. OH and the best part was watching people throw-up and girls fall all over the place in a druken stupor... I dunno, why - but I simply find amusement in those things LOL. On a more serious note - if Dave Lee was watching from beyond, and he truly wanted us to celebrate his life and death by living the vida loca then I think he would've been happy. Cheers to our lost friend Dave Lee, hope to see the brutha again 1 day. Payce

Was taken out to STK last night - showed up at 7:00 and the place was already getting packed! We only waited for our seats for about 10 minutes (some of the group had gotten their early) and stayed by the bar where we ordered a round of cocktails. I got the Tea Time - one of the best cocktails I've had in a while! Earl Grey tea with mango-infused vodka, or something like that. We were a large group of 7, and were placed in the back in a great corner booth. Our server was very friendly, knew a lot about the different cuts of steak, and attentive. Music was good and the whole place had a great atmosphere! The food: Appetizers - we started out with the Fried Oysters (special of the day), Tuna Tartare w/ Plaintain Chips, and "Lil' Big Mac" Sliders. All were absolutely AMAZING. If you had to go with one, though, I'd say go with the Sliders. There was definitely a hint of truffle on them, which made them extra good. Steak - I ordered the Medium sized Bone-in Rib Eye topped with Black Truffles, cooked medium rare. The steaks, which are aged cuts of steak, was perfect, and the truffles were divine!! The meat was cooked just right, with that nice crispy charred texture on the outside. It was a great size (I'm small, so I couldn't finish), and the flavor of the truffle combined with the beef was delish. Also, if you ask, they'll bring you out a whole set of sauces to go on the steak, from red wine sauce to blue cheese with garlic, to steak sauce, and many others I can't remember. Sides - For sides, we ordered the Mac & Cheese, Creamed Spinach, and Truffle Fries. Mac & Cheese was the best, but they were all great additions to the meal. And a side note, but the Truffle Fries really resemble more  little bricks of potato than fries. Dessert - By dessert-time, we were all so ridiculously full, so we just ordered the Cotton Candy (since one of my companions said it was "just like whipped sweet air". Fun and delicious, it came with two chocolate covered strawberries. As you can probably imagine, everything was spectacular and I'd definitely recommend it.
