by Edward L. on I haven't been to the bar. But this place is possibly the best venue for small shows. I saw Langhorne Slim here and the sound was perfect. Because of the layout, it seemed like a very intimate show but high energy at the same time. And you could still navigate to the bar for a drink. One of the best venues in Philly.
by Drew S. on I find it hard to believe that previously to last night, I had never been to this place. Maybe it's cuz whenever I'm in the Mission I'm either on 16th or 24th streets - guess I'm kinda unadventurous in that way (or Kilowatt and Skylark are just THAT fun)... Anyway, Bruno's is your standard Mission dance club/bar, with a couple of dance floors and bars inside. There's a small cover after 10pm, but drink prices are reasonable, said drinks are nice and strong, and because there's multiple bars it doesn't take eons to get a drink. This place is fun - the dancing is infectious and the variety of rooms adds to the atmosphere. And christ, for the Mission, there are some seriously hot chicks here on Saturday nights... So I realize this review has been very stream-of-consciousness, but I'm hungover after having too much fun at the place I'm reviewing. So that ain't bad, right?

I called Brunos last week to reserve a couple of tables for an upcoming birthday party I'm planning and Lara, the manager, answered the phone. I told her that I wanted to make a reservation, but she cut me off and said, "I'm busy right now - leave your # and i'll call you back." I never got that return call. My boyfriend called her back a few days later and managed to book a couple of tables. We realized this week that we forgot to ask about logistics - cover charge/birthday guest list/etc...so I called back yesterday and got Lara on the phone. I said i had a quick question - we have tables reserved for next weekend and just wanted to find out about covercharge/guestlist. This time she said - I don't have my book in front of me, call me back later and just hung up. I don't care how busy you are, good phone manners is the very least I would expect from someone who's JOB it is to work with customers... Long story short - we're throwing our party elsewhere....
