5 Stars because I had an ideal dining experience at Parish.  No wait for a table.  Our server was awesome (really good lookin'), and made spot-on suggestions: Creole Frites, Picnic Plate, Stuffed Catfish, etc.  Every dish and every cocktail was wonderful, AND a cute guy picked up our check!  I've always been a fan the store and market, but I'm so glad that I went back for dinner.  Can't wait to try their brunch.

Decent, if a bit pretentious, club where the management was nice enough and polite (but then again I'm a cute white girl). I went Sunday evening, and it started off slow and then picked up. I am a big dancer and really dance, instead of standing around and rocking back and forth with a drink in my hand, thinking I look cool, like most people at higher-end clubs :P So I did get to dance quite a bit and that was fun, but the dancefloor got a little too crowded later on and the music was formulaic and a bit boring. Plenty of hiphop and big pop songs with one or two layers of mixing-- the music was probably the weakest thing about the place overall. The crowd was pretty cute if a little on the ghetto and frat side (with a few pervy finance types trying to pick up natashas and any attractive girl who would pay them attention). Also, although I lost my wallet while dancing (or was "liberated" of it), I did get it back with my IDs in it, minus the $60 cash. I did get free entry and free bottle service, so I can't exactly complain about the $60, and it does say something about the crowd that it wasn't outright stolen. Overall I had a good time, and if I had another chance to go for free and with no entrance hassles then I would probably attend.

Not so long ago there were Copa's and Bonggo's to chose from for a night of latin dancing. Since Bonggo's changed management for the umpteenth time, and Copa cut their Latin floor in half, and cut free water, and started gouging as far as reasonable cover charges go... well, Copa has waay tougher competition (e.g. Dallas, my Latin Lover) Copa hosts salsa troups from Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio & Houston for annual competitions, and boy can they shake it. They also host various UT organization club parties, as well as weekly salsa lessons for those who need to polish up their twinkle toes. To boot: they also offer salsa lessons Thursday Friday and Saturday nights at 9pm this spring + regular cover for $10 total. So far I've been in fellow rateclubser Georgette O's salsa class, and I don't think I've met a more clear dance instructor. She and her fiance teach Friday nights - they are very friendly so check them out. I've honestly never spent a night here that wasn't fun (even on a sucky date) but nights spent here are now far and few between. The dancers who look like pros? Its probably the lead who knows all those moves, because if you see a babe teaching her partner to lead, its an ungraceful, awkward sight. Especially when the first floor is the sole space in the entire club where you may actually partner-dance as of summer 2008. The upper level is now reserved for lounging and bottle service patrons, presumably to keep up to speed with rising property value of the block Copa is nestled in. Sucky, since this means you are now dancing like tuna in a can. One other huge issue I have with them is their implemented policy of charging for water and a steep cover. Dancers like to dance a lot. Doing so, they tend to work up a sweat and dehydrate. Copa used to offer a paper-cup, self-serve water cooler service until recently, and this did peeve me until I got wise & starting toting a water bottle with my latin shoes. I used to love coming here to practice (I still kinda do if its not packed), but I won't likely be paying for parking i.e. if you want me to come along, you will be the one driving and/or paying for my parking. Celebwatch: Edison C. and I swear we saw Rosario Dawson here one night, but she was being shy with her hat on. Ask him if you don't believe me.
