The first time I went here, it was one of the first cold days of winter. I was wearing a long coat and boots. The doorman looked my friend and I up and down and said "sorry ladies I cant do flats". after I saw girl after girl exiting without heels. I was very pissed because my friend who invited me failed to mention this detail. and it was too damn cold anyway to care. the second time I went, I was wearing flats. but this time the doormen were a lot more accomodating. They did lean over though to check our shoes. I had to jump behind a friend and hide my feet. haha. that night I saw a model who was in the victorias secret fashion show. there were a LOT of good looking people there. and tall. the bartenders are both very sweet. and the space is not very large but gets a good crowd. the music is good. But they do have that annoying violin chick preform like every night. and Ive seen her at that other hotel place I cant remember the name of. there seems to be alot of business type men there. who like to brag. lol and show off. pros: bathroom lines never seem to be an issue. cons: door men do like to make you wait outside. even on a slow FREEZING night. I almost got hypothermia. pro: this creepy man was bothering me at the door, asking if I wanted to get in. as soon as I said leave me alone both doormen stepped in and asked if I knew him. they scolded him for creeping around and bothering ladies and told him to never come back. the door can be harsh or nice depending on their mood. I say always wear heels in case theyre feeling moody.

Sigh...  Pause... Vessel's got a lot of potential, but unfortunately they've got some work to do. They're going to have to put some serious effort into targeting a better crowd, because right now it's a mix of the super cool SF scenesters we all know and love and the cheesy on the prowl dolled up dudes and even cheesier done up barbies.  They bug me.  That's my biggest issue with Vessel right now, though I suppose this does come with Union Square territory. They've got cool wooden tables that double and platforms to dance on, and a lit from behind wooden bar.  Then they have these weird light fixtures and pinkness everywhere that tells me I just walked downstairs into LA or Miami.  I'd like to see them move away from the pink lighting and go for something a little earthier.  I'm not sure how I feel about the tree.  I actually think I like it, but the really odd metallic wall behind it doesn't do it for me.  That's what it is.  It's a weird juxtaposition of earthy and spacey and the spacy is cool but not at a place I'd want to call home. Whatever they do, they should NOT change the sound system.  Three stars for that one!  They could turn it down though, so we can at least attempt to have a conversation... If you can catch them for an event with a predictable crowd you like - happy hour?  special events?  your favorite promoter on a week night? then Vessel's a cool spot indeed.

Soooo much fun on Weekend nights.  The busiest is Saturdays with a mix of old school hip hop and current top 40 jams for dancing.  The dance floor is small, so it's always crowded.  Unfortunately the bartenders are a little slow and don't take credit cards.
