by Particia Affolter on We stopped into The Park for drinks after strolling along the High Line. We sat in the garden portion of the restaurant. The space is great! I loved the faux park ambiance with bird feeders hanging from the ceiling and the trees all around us --hence the name ;) The service was fast and very friendly. The specialty cocktails however were nothing special and lets say you pay for the ambiance alone. Given the plethora of bars in the area I would not be in a rush to come back here. 2 stars for the great ambiance & good service.
by Holden W. on Nothing signifies the height of 2008 opulence better than The Box circa of summer 08. $10K tables, crazy shit both on and off podium, and we don't give a f*#& vibe... That firebird has been long tamed, and if u are afraid to feel like you are feasting in the time of plague, don't. The Box is feeling more and more like a lounge than a performance venue and few remaining performance are not as risque, crowd is less hot and few people are dancing in intermissions. I.e., the writing is on the wall... Don't come here if you have been here before, but might be cool to visit for the first time. Go Fri or Sat after 12:30 and plan to stay till 4am. Don't come without a table reservation, this is the only place in Manhattan where not having a table makes one feel like a looser (imagine going to Met, watching Opera standing, except not in the very back but standing in isles among seating audience)
by Erin Retort on A weird place in a weird part of town, the Sullivan Room is a little tough to find. Once you find it, and after a long walk downstairs, you find a seriously decent space with very solid sound. The DJ booth is close to as good as it gets, and the results on the main system are evident. DJs here have all the tools neccessary to pump out their best work, and the clubs patrons are rewarded with some solid sounds. Theres lots of decent seating, but the bar is overcrowded and very pricey, even for big city standards. $8 for a cheap domestic bottle of beer is highway robbery no matter where you are. But the sound and music almost make up for it.
