by Liz Grant on 2010-07-29In an area of the suburbs that is seriously missing quality nightlife lies an understated, often overlooked, summer hangout - Bandito Barney's. Its easy to get to - take Route 72 (Higgins Rd.) west until you reach downtown East Dundee, then turn right at the Dairy Queen. If not for the throngs of people walking in and the music coming from the beer garden, you could easily miss it. Although it is often crowded, it never feels that way because the majority of the place is a HUGE outdoor beergarden made up of several stone patios, courtyards, beach bungalow bars, lighted palm trees, fountains and other water features. It will remind you of a true Caribbean nightlife experience. The waitstaff is plentiful and the crowds of people are actually a benefit, giving it an upbeat party atmosphere. There is plenty of seating and live music. They do have a menu of appetizers, sandwiches and basic entrees. Bevereges (I suggest the Rum Runners) come in souvenir cups that you can take home. I also have to say that the few times I have been there, they seem to have the cleanest washrooms I have ever seen in a bar. The live music is diverse - I have seen a classic rock cover duo and a 10 piece Reggae band on different occasions. Its a great place to take a group of rowdy friends on a hot summer night!
by Jason Stalter on 2009-05-14Bandito Barneys has a great atmosphere the food is fresh and the portions are well sized the drinks are server with a smile and the staff are easy to see as they all where ties ( a few were a little dirty but when a 20 year old cutie approaches you as your waiter you tend to over look the dirt )the only other down fall that I found at barney's is while I was enjoying my drink I was asked if I was interested in new movies that I couldn't get at any store yet. and while it was a good deal I had gotten a bad taste from this.
by d on 2007-10-03They just expanded the beer garden and it looks great, a castle like area with gardens various decks, bars, waterfalls, a beach. What more do you need. Food was great also.
