The music is off the chain.  Straight up hip hop with no lame top 40.  Another smaller room by the bar plays randomness.  The night I was there it was a lot of latin music.  Yessssssss. Drinks are pretty stiff, cover is $7, and yes, the crowd is a little hood.  Get over it, and yourself.  I've been to "nicer" places where fights have broken out and people are having dry sex on the dance floor. One star less because I went on a Thursday, and it was EMPTY.  come on promoters!  Find a way to bring in some broke as folk who can't afford a $7 cash cover, but can charge a $8 drink. :o)

Harlot is like walking into a Lori Early painting or a scene out of Pan's Labyrinth:  gorgeous, dark, lush, flawless.  Every piece of this lounge appears to have been chosen with care.  Absolutely nothing is out of place, unnecessary:  from the focus, the giant painting perched atop the brambles mounted above the DJ stand to the candles secreted in the recessed shelves in the exposed walls; to the cowhide sofas and glass table tops showcasing sexy harlots (a la Latrice Barnett); to the antlers affixed up high evoking death and re-growth; to the choice of paintings bedecking the ceiling and surrounding walls; to the black iron gates of the smoking cage. The same discriminating care seems to have extended to selecting the staff, as they are the most courteous and professional lounge staff I have ever encountered -- the doorman, servers and bouncers. Harlot is exquisite.  It is vampy and enticing with its come hither, around the corner wink of red "Harlot" sign veiled in an otherwise nondescript alley.  I never expected a lounge to capture sensual and aesthetic holism.  Harlot does.  And we get to be her lucky patrons.

I have mixed feelings about this place. We've been there twice.  The first time was great, the performers, the food, etc., so we planned my birthday party there.  Granted it was on a Sunday night, but the performers went from Carnival in Rio to a carnival at a jr. high in both costuming and talent.  I think they let them choose their own acts and costumes so there is no quality control at all.  The food was still pretty good, but it is sometimes hard to eat with big plates on tiny tables. My suggestion would be that to charge what they are charging they have to open only on nights when the A team can serve A food.  If it's amateur night, either do a cut rate gimmick night or don't serve food.  Also sitting downstairs is FAR better than sitting upstairs where you can't see much.  On that note, the atmosphere is cool and I would definitely suggest it for drinks.
