Had a cesar salad with steak and a $5 margarita. The chips are red in color and they are good. The 3 dips they offer - 2 salsas and a bean dip were unique - the smooth salsa was good, the bean dip was great, and the chunkier salsa was pretty good - enjoyed the variety for a change. The margarita was ok - El Compadre makes a better regular margarita. I wanted to get a fu fu margarita till I saw the prices - one of them was $30 - I ain't paying that for a margarita no matter how good it is. The pina colada looked good - it is served in a pineapple and it is $12. Looks like drinks are the specialty here - but you are going to pay for the drinks. The cesar salad dressing was good - the steak was cooked just right and was the highlight of the salad. This place is really funky inside and I enjoyed looking at all the paintings. It was dead when I was here too - which was nice. They were playing some funky spanish music in here too - some 70s american cover songs - really odd - fit right in with the decor. Parking here is a major pain in the ass and is the biggest reason while I'll never come back here - unless I am not driving.

I went to GAMH last night to see Devil Makes Three, and I had a pretty good time.  Like any red-blooded bluegrass fan, I enjoy whiskey, and had decided that the best way to transport my Jack was in one of those little two-shot bottles.  I guess the bouncers saw me with it while I was smoking outside, and stopped me when I tried to go back in: Bouncer: Do you have a bottle? Me:  ummmm, no? Bouncer: You don't? Me: No, sir. Bouncer: So do you mind if I look in your bag? Me:  No. Bouncer:  (pulls out half empty shot bottle.  Seriously, there was only like two sips left).  Is there anything else? Me: No, for reals this time. Bouncer:  That's what you said last time. Me:  You're not wrong  (hangs head in shame). The experience, however dignity stripping, was surprisingly pleasant.  After stealing my whiskey, they wished me a good evening, and I continued my jigging and drinking of Pabst (yuck) for $3.50.  Not a bad deal for such a popular venue.  They could easily charge more for their drinks, and I really like that if they steal your booze like a bunch of dirty dirty thieves, you can make up for it at their bar without breaking the bank. All in all, it was a fun evening had by all, except when my friend fell down later.  That's a different story.  If I ever get to review that specific cabbie, he's getting one star for yelling at my friend while she was squirming and writhing in pain on Market Street.  He still gets one star, though, cause, you know, we got to where we needed to go. Moral of the story:  Conceal your booze better than I did, and don't fall down in the middle of busy street.

MJQ was the first bar I ever went to as an underaged college student (I can't speak for their ID'ing now - this was almost ten years ago!). I give it five stars partially out of nostalgia for all the great times I had there. I don't live in Atlanta anymore, but I hear that MJQ has expanded their space. MJQ is a fun and literally underground spot - it apparently resides in a former parking garage. The music is always great, with good DJs, and it's a popular place to go out dancing. One thing to note about this place is the constant fluctuation of the cover price - generally, if the door people know you, you'll get in for free. If they don't know you or you look or act like a jackass, they'll charge you - the more of a jackass, the higher the cover. That's just in my experience. Check MJQ out, if you can find it.
