I came to Mighty for the first time ever to celebrate my birthday earlier this month. I was looking for a good spot to have some drinks and hear some good music, when a friend suggested this place. I'd heard of Mighty before, and when my homie told that DJ Shortkut was spinning that night, I was sold. Since I'm someone who graduated from high school during the 90's, I was looking forward to his set since he tends to play stuff catered to us grown folks who grew up on the "good stuff". His set was pretty good, but didn't last as long as I hoped it would. As for the venue itself, it was fairly spacious, had multiple rooms, and had a nice, chill vibe about it. The crowd was diverse, and had good-looking females of different nationalities. The dress code was relaxed, but I saw folks who were dressed up well enough to get into a Vegas club (I'll admit I fell into that category), and some folks who were dressed down in t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers. It was a pretty good experience for myself and my crew that night. It did get kinda weird though when they started playing what seemed like an hourlong set of trance/house music. I almost flashed back to my raver days when I saw people dancing hardcore (not to mention by themselves) to that stuff. Seriously, I kept waiting for someone to bust out some glowsticks and a whistle at that point. It wouldn't have surprised me if a few people were "rolling" by then. =P

I have found myself here a few times. Mostly on Saturdays around 9 for thier Comedy Shows (and Reverse Happy Hour). I have a thing for local comedy. Yea, sometimes the comedians are a little rough around the edges but they all have to get their practice, test out their style and get their starts somewhere. A few times I stick around later for the DJ. They usually spin some great mixes and vary their DJs now and again. When it gets packed the flow is a bit difficult and it can be tough to get a drink at the bar at that point. When that happens I usually find my way back to a bar closer to home.

I let this one sit in my mind and... macerate? marinate?  Some word that fits. I was with friends and stopped by here late-ish one Friday evening a bit ago.  Hopes were high for a 24-hour place.  Hopes were dashed against the sharp stones of vicious reality.  I might remember the service...  No, wait, there wasn't any... Why two stars?  Well...  The evening we were there, this definitely could be classified as a fetish bar.  A somewhat main-stream fetish, but still a fetish.  Not to my taste, and I couldn't fit into this fetish even if I wanted to do so.  Fetishes have their place, and if the Fridays here fit your taste, go for it.  Now I know. The atmosphere really could be nice.  The elements are there, good location...  sigh.  Perhaps I'll try this place again during some more neutral time.
