"Hey let's go to 1492..er...1599...err...1991...er jesus what is that place called again?" It's a great start as to what should be several more bars in the area. Located across the street from the very hip and healthy "Tribal Cafe" and if your not familiar with "HI-FI" you really have to look for this place. It is literally a metal screen door separating the inside from the outside. The exterior looks more like your walking into an appliance store than a bar. The bar is rather refreshing. All regional beer and high end wine -- no liquor. I had an Eagle Rock "Solidarity" beer and it was probably one of the best craft brews I've ever had on draft. I can't say anything about the wine because I didn't order any. They also have several rare beers that you can buy in tall cans priced between $5-$9. Wine is roughly the same price. Apparently they change the taps VERY frequently, perhaps every day some cases. Menu listings are updated daily on a chalk board that sits above the bar. 1642 has only existed since March so like all new bars this place can definitely be improved. Seating areas are satisfactory but the tables and chairs are rather cheap. Bar area is smallish so it's always tough to get a seat a night. There are no LCD screens for local sporting events which personally I think they could use at least a few. I mentioned this to my other roommates and they disagreed and told me that would affect "the mood." Ah, whatever, they should at least add a pinball machine. So if your planning to come here, make sure you are with friends that you can hold a good conversation with for an extended period of time. Other then drinking beer and wine there isn't much else to do 1642. Having said that, this can always be a good thing.

The best nite to go here is on Sundays for Banana Splitz which has Dj Steve Aoki but more importantly Dj AM! Went here 2 sundays and had tons of fun got in for free both times AND free beer!!!!!!And free CUPCAKES ( i didn't get a chance to sample the cupcakes =( (Before 11pm) I didn't notice any stars of anykind just cool funky hipsters that know a good tune when they hear it. The bottled water was way too expensive tho... $6.00 ea. They have alot of guest dj too. Junior Sanchez was there one nite! Kewl! And Low Budget. And I think one of the Presets dj'd too.
