by Diane B. on Well, it's unfortunate that I have to write this, but I think everyone out there should be warned. A friend of mine, who happens to be gay, went to Monday Night Social at Playhouse and was bashed by a couple of total D-Bags in the VIP area. They taunted him, poured drinks on him, and generally bullied him. Nice, right? When the security guards were notified of this, they did nothing except tell my friend that if he didn't like it, he should leave the VIP area. Really? Apparently Playhouse tolerates gay bashing and bullying in its establishment. Don't go there. They promote hate.
by Alexis A. on If Oingo Boingo designed a cantina...this would be their place. Friends had suggested going to a different place but when their suggestion turned out to be closed they asked me for a recommendation. I remember bookmarking this place on rateclubs so I immediately thought of it as a substitution. Ok-but a popular and trendy spot for dinner at 8:00 p.m. on a Friday - ARE YOU NUTS? So I called as we were about 20 minutes away and the gentleman told me not to worry and was so helpful. He put us on the walk in list. You know you're going to have a good time when you have to walk behind velvet curtains to get to the host!! By the time we arrived and had a quick yummy mojito from the bar we were seated. We were seated in the VIP lounge which made me feel right at home since it had white padded walls (that was a joke). The food and service were both excellent. Everyone was attentive without being annoying and the manager came up and asked about our service as well. And the price...I was stunned at how reasonable everything was. For 4 drinks, appetizer (not including the chips and salsas), 4 entrees and a dessert it was only $100. Trendy - Fun - And I didn't have to mortgage my first born to enjoy it. Viva Dia De Los Muertos and VMC baby!
by Kenny Perrino on I attended the poetry reading last Friday and was just blown away by the poetry, the performers, and the involvement of the incredibly diverse crowd. If you haven't been and you live in New York, you've been missing out. At just 7 dollars to get through the door, it's a bargain as well. With everything there is to do in this city, I'll be going back. That's saying a lot.
