The concept of bed dining is way cool. And the atmosphere is awesome; from the white room with changing color lighting, to the hostesses and waiters dress and energetic attitude, to DJ music. It is a great place to take friends visiting the Bay Area to give them a San Francisco experience to remember, but not a place I would go regularly. It is a very unusual type of dining establishment. The most interesting thing may have been when the hostess went to each table and handed one rubber glove to everyone. I asked, "and what is this gong to be use for" thinking I may have gotten into a little more than I bargained for, but she said, "it was to eat the appetizer with". The Food: The presentation was very good. The courses were unique and interesting dishes, but the taste was lacking. The Bruchetta with buffalo mozzarella, some veggies and balsamic had a little too many flavors that didn't seem to blend right. The entree was a chicken leg in cream sauce that was decent, but bland. The menu said rhubarb crisp for dessert, but it looked like apple to me. Overall the food was mediocre. The portions were rather small and I would have expected more for the price. The performances: They were great performances (a singer and a trapeze artist), but the length of them were way too short and I would have expected some more performers or some to walk around to give some personal attention to the guests. I read a lot of the other reviews regarding lack of performers and think if they don't add more to the performances (or lower the entrance price) that business at Supperclub will go away.

Le Boyfriend came home last night wanting to know where I'd like to join him for "super sexy date times", which is his way of asking where I want to have dinner. We were uncharacteristically indecisive, which led us downtown where, if dinner ideas fail us, there's always Jameson and nudie photo hunt. We wandered down to Red River and 6th and stood outside El Sol reading the menu. A lady busted out of the door and for a second I thought she might hug us. "This is my restaurant! Come inside!" She coaxed and persuaded, all the while ushering us inside, bragging about how well she would feed us. We were so overwhelmed by her energy and insistence that we found ourselves in a booth reading menus before we knew what had hit us. We had just been hustled. The space is way cooler now than it was as Emo's lounge, and is bright and airy with big windows. The staff was prompt and attentive and (LISTEN UP, my vegan friends), unlike 90% of Mexican and TexMex restaurants in town, they have totally veg-approved rice and black beans, plus good veggie options. I had the appropriately named Anna's tofu plate (beans, rice, pico, guac and a tofu and veggie main dish served with tortillas and a strangely addictive peanut sauce) and Le BF had veggie fajitas. We thought everything was really, really yummy. It was fresh with a slight, satisfying level of overall grease. A quick note about their drinks: they have a full bar and the drinks are fine, but their pricing system is nothing short of bizarre. You can get a glass of wine or a Jameson/Dewar's/Bushmills for $5. That's also what they charge for Skol vodka and Takka gin. (FYI, a bottle of Jameson is $30. A bottle of Takka is about $4.50). BF is a bar owner and thought this was very, very amusing. Dinner for two + a drink each + tip = ~$35. Plenty good enough for me to go back.

This is my favorite club in SF. Here's why: * It is never so crowded you can't dance or get a drink in a reasonable amount of time. I used to bartend so I know the drill. So for all you people complaining you can't get a drink here's a tip for you: Bartenders work down the bar in one direction, then go back to the beginning and start over. If you stand on the wrong side of the person they just served, you are screwed. If you stand in that little spot where the bartenders are working their sides of the bar, there is also a good chance you are going to be screwed (in that not so fun I'm super fucking thirsty why don't you see me waving my money kinda way). So take a moment, check out the bartender and see which way she's going, then push your way in and stand on THAT side of the guy she's serving and you will be next. Problem solved. * They have the best sound system in the city. Or so my super snobby DJ friends tell me. I just know that there have been many many days when anytime someone talks to me, all I can hear is the Peanut's teacher and yell "WHAAAA?!?!" from my hangover coma on the sofa. And damn that bass. It vibrates my teeth and tickles my insides. Thats a good thing. * Plentiful free parking. And even though its in the middle of nothing, cabs know its there and come by often. You may need to pull some fancy footwork to get the cab first though, but I don't mind those dirty looks. * There is a guest list. I have never paid more than $10 to get into this club, sometimes only $5. They have an email list that will alert you, or check out the website before heading out. If you can't make plans in advance, then yes, you're going to have to pony up the $20. Thats the $10 penalty for being a slacker. * Yes, the Back room is small and stuffy, good for chill beats. Sometimes they put super awesome shit back there, the place gets packed and hot as all hell. But on nights like that you should check out the upstairs of the back room, which overlooks the whole back room. Cool view. There's also super secret bathrooms in the back. Unisex, unwell lit, single person bathrooms. Just sayin. * They usually have two and sometimes three different crews spinning there, at least on breakbeat nights (check out SIESMIC). One in the back, one in the main and one outside. Being able to go outside to get some air and listen to some great DJs is a fantastic thing. I am guessing there are no neighbors in the area to complain about the noise level. * Open until 4 am. Get your dance on.
