The reviews on here got me totally hyped up about this place.  The pictures on the website ARE better than what you see in real life, but the place isn't shabby at all.  I'm not sure if it's the cleanest and nicest club in LA like everyone says, but it's very big.  It's a shame that for a club this size to have such a dinky "dance floor."  I say "dance floor" because it's raised almost 2 feet off the ground and people DO topple off the sides;  I'm surprised someone hasn't already sued the club for this hazard. Lots of space outside with cabanas for you, your buddies and some other bodies to lounge and mingle in.  Inside, there were tacky projections of go-go dancer videos on the walls alongside real life go-go dancers (one of whom worked it like it was a strip club --  nasty!!).  The DJ seemed like he was going down the Top 40 list from as far back as the 90's, but he redeemed himself with Gimme More towards the end. 3/4 into the night, security cleared the dance floor for a "performance," which was some randoms doing a b-boy routine.  It was like I was in Step Up or some movie like that.  I didn't get the point of the show at all. No cover but the two lines outside are separated by guest list and table service.  We weren't on the guest list but we managed to get in somehow (probably for being there super early).  Drinks here are expensive ($14 +tip for a Long Island) and not nearly as stiff.

As far as the atmosphere goes, it feels like you are sitting at a folding table in the middle of a club.  They could easily put more tables in there, which might make it feel less like they are just preparing for the real action.  But maybe they don't cause then there would just be a lot of empty tables. The food wasn't very good quality or very interesting or very tasty.  At best it was mediocre and absolutely overpriced.  The produce all seemed to be days old and nothing had very much flavor.  Cooked things were overdone.  We had the wasabi fries (ordinary and a touch soggy), eggplant pakora (also soggy and bland), day boat scallops (probably the best thing we ate, good flavor, well cooked), corn coconut chowder (really really sweet, and strange that they throw a won ton in there, which is just one of the ones that you get on the table), chopped salad (not fresh tasting, but fine), hearts of romaine salad (literally brown tipped leaves), paneer ravioli (the WORST thing we ordered, tasted like warmed up paste, really mushy) and the pork loin with pad thai (overcooked all around, dry and very sweet meat, mushy noodles) the service was good, totally nice and to their credit, took the ravioli off the bill after they saw how little we ate and asked why.

9/06 EDIT: There was a time when this place had five stars, but I'm over it.  I recently came to the realization that the dj plays the same songs, in the same order, week after week so that I can literally predict what will come on next while I'm dancing.  That could be a fun bar trick (Look y'all, Katie's psychic!), or it could just be lame. --------- Walking into Vertigo last week I realized that for the first time in my life I've become a regular at a bar.  The bouncer and bartenders greet us by name, I know or have danced with a good number of the people there, and my friend claims she's made out with at least 5 of the people there at any given time (she doesn't read Rateclub so I can say that...nobody tell her, k'). I never meant to go to Vertigo all the time, but there is something about it that consistently draws me away from the bars where I intended on spending my night.  The bartenders are attractive, have interesting stories, and pour stiff drinks.  The crowd is fun and fairly laid back (though a little bit more clubby than I'm into).  But the real reason I keep coming back is the dance floor, which is almost always packed and hot--just the way i like it.
