I loved this place. The cannoli french toast actually exceeded my expectations, which is nuts because I had put this dish on a pedestal long before actually tasting it. My potatoes were a little burnt on the outside (JUST HOW I LOVE THEM) and perfect dipped in their homemade hot sauce, which I really wish was available by the bottle because it is DELICIOUS. Our server was really sweet (and agreed with us on the importance of one day bottling the hot sauce). I can't wait to get back because I couldn't make room for the Lemon Ricotta pancakes on my last visit and I have feeling they are not going to disappoint.

Compound has closed its doors to the weekly partiers that venture out each weekend. Now Compound is only open for special events (e.g., The Bert Shows Big Wicked). When this place was open on a regular basis it was only so-so. I started going to Compound after Atlanta's super club, Vision - not VisionS, closed its doors. I have yet to find an adequate replacement for Vision and in fact, have given up on the Atlanta club scene for the most part. I totally shunned Compound after having a terrible NYE experience in 2006/2007. The place was absolutely packed and I stood waiting at the bar for 45 minutes and never got a drink. Maybe I am not hot enough, or have big enough boobs or something to warrant serving me before someone else, but this place was terribly understaffed at the bar. I ended up just leaving because there was no point in staying if I couldn't have my favorite $12 (overpriced) cocktail to enjoy. The pros to this place is that it provides both indoor and outdoor atmospheres which is great.

Ah, Blake's. It's probably the first gay bar visited by a new comer to Atlanta. And that says a lot about Blake's - it's a mainstay, and it attracts a generic and diverse enough crowd to please anyone before they start branching out to more "specialized" locales like Jungle, Hoedown's, wetBAR, Heretic, and the like. Blake's recent renovation of their upstairs area has turned the space into a more open lay out, with a nice central square bar, and large picture windows to...well, the parking lot. But it's a nice feel. However, it's a stark contrast from the dark wood downstairs, with a neutral paint scheme on drywall and some thoughtfully directed lights. So Blake's is now a bar with two vibes - a little more "big metro" upstairs, and more "neighborhood" downstairs. But the drinks are good, the bartenders nice, and the space cozy enough and large enough to accommodate everyone. Blake's is definitely the spot of choice to either start a wild night or have a more relaxed night out with a few friends.
