The only reason why I know about this place is that the owner, Kenny, chatted it up with my friend and I during baseball playoffs over at R Bar.  He seemed nice and when my bf got there a little later, we all consumed many shots and a ton of beers together!  It was a fun night and he treated us like stars...and it wasn't even at his own bar!  We even got Vertigo tee shirts compliments of the owner. A month later (November?), my bf and I decided to stop in and check the place out.  Not bad...not bad at all.  The beer on tap tasted funny, so we gave it back and got bottles instead.  We stayed for only one drink then went home. Last night, as R Bar wasn't open yet, we decided to meet at Vertigo and start the Obama celebrations there.  Kenny was bartending, and as he carded me for my drink, I'm assuming he has no memory of that fun night at R Bar, but whatever!  He made my drinks strong (love Jack), gave me goldfish to munch on and didn't demand my money right after I ordered.  My bf showed up half way through my first drink and we had a few more after.  Then took ourselves over to R Bar for a few after. Vertigo is a fun, cute bar.  Obama supporter all the way!  Cash only (which I can never stand, but bf had money on him, so all was okay)!  And the drinks are strong.  Not much more you can ask for in a bar.

i have tons of calligraphy homework to attack, but i just had to sit down at the computer and rate biscuits & blues because of the fabulous night i had last night. my boyfriend decided to take us to biscuits & blues last night on a whim because we haven't been out doing anything "fun" in a while and it was definitely what we both needed. believe me, biscuits & blues will do that to you: it'll make you forget everything you might be stressing in life. that night, i felt free, liberated, unstressed, and everything else... ...all thanks to biscuits & blues. see, they never fail me. that visit was probably my sixth time going there. we came super early before our reservations, but they still seated us. we chowed down on mac & cheese croquettes, fried calamari (his - since i'm temporarily vegetarian), eggplant & zucchini jambalaya, fried catfish (his), cornbread and greens. (yes, we were hungry. can you tell?) the band playing was commander cody - a country western band, opposite from our listening spectrum - we are hip hop/jazz/soul heads. but let me tell you: we were giggin' all night! that was "soul" music at its finest - real, raw, uncut. LOVED IT. yes, it can be quite pricey. the average entree price is $16-$23 and the small plates are $5-$11. the desserts sound great - they had a chocolate pecan pie, but we were TOO FULL to eat it. they used to make a sweet potato pie, but it's not on the menu anymore. it's also hard to find parking...we parked in a garage half a block down which cost us $15. tickets for the shows also vary. sometimes it's $15, sometimes it's $25 - like ours last night. all in all, biscuits & blues is definitely one of the places you GOTTA experience - at least once. i promise you'll come back more than once. you can go online and hear song samples of the performers and choose based on that. it was a good thing we went on a whim so we could get a taste of music we usually aren't exposed to. also, don't forget to order the catfish (which i was killing on the regular before i turned veg).

While a bit pricey, Pod is a great restaurant to take someone from out of town to. It's all about experience here. The atmosphere, design by Karim Rashid, is fun and funky. The service generally is great, and the food isn't bad. The cocktails are totally vibrant and funky, and there sushi bar rocks!
