Until very recently, I was a Bimbo's virgin. Wait.  That didn't sound right. Anyway, I have no idea why I've never been here before.  It's the perfect size (comparable, for example, to the Great American Music Hall) and they book some outstanding indie bands, mostly those coming out from under the radar. I liked the scalloped burgundy curtains, the layout of all the tables and the dim lighting, the overall 30's jazz club feel of the place.  The crowd was very polite and this is the kind of venue in which you'll have no trouble sauntering right up to the stage where you can be accidentally splashed with a performer's sweat*.   My only complaint is that openers and headliners alike suffered an awful lot of mic feedback.  Sound was sorely compromised. This place has that little bit of extra character, what with a bartender so serious and oldfashioned he must have been chuckling about it on the inside - that or he only leaps off the pages of Fitzgerald novels to tend bar here from time to time.  I must also mention the attendant in the ladies room, who reminded ladies not to pee on the seat and to "stay classy."  Preemptive as it was, her request made me burst out laughing and I almost DID pee on the seat. *You know, if that's your thing.  I saw Au Revoire Simone on Saturday and that seemed to be on many of the male audience members' minds.

Bimbo's 365 Club is like stepping back in time. Love the bathrooms with the individual vanities to primp in and the retro-fabulous paneling and chandeliers. Eat before going to see a show because the food is HORRIBLE. They shouldn't even bother trying to serve food, just stick with drinks and music. It's a great place to see music and a good excuse to dress up and get swanky.
