I must say, I'm fairly impressed, and that's not easy to do.  I give XIV four stars just based on the truffle mac n cheese, the filet mignon, cooked to perfection, kobe beef sliders, and the braised ribs, which was probably the best I've had outside of my momma's kitchen. I love truffles and mac n cheese.  Together, it is heaven.  Well done. Filet mignon had an AMAZING flavor and was so succulent, and perfectly cooked the way I like it.  A-mazing.  Note: I normally am not very impressed with filet's at fancy restaurants. Braised ribs were awesome.  I was telling my friends how impossible it is to find good braised ribs in restaurants (b/c nothing beats a good pot of "galbeejjeem", and you Koreans know what I'm talking about), but I was proven wrong this night.  The only gripe that I had about this was the fact that the presentation was identical to the filet mignon.  In fact, I couldn't tell the two apart until I actually cut it open. Kobe beef sliders were good.  I wouldn't get the whole hamburger as an entree, but the slider appetizer was perfect for the three of us, and tasted really good.  Meat was so. fricken. soft. Not so impressive moments of the evening include the jalapeno corn cheese, and the jidori chicken (I took one bite, and never looked back). Then I had the doughnuts for dessert, which were really good.  Probably worth a shot.  It went wonderfully with the banana ice cream.  Yum. Then, there was the service.....why in such a hurry to get me out of the restaurant?????  I was mid-sip when the bus-boy came and practically snatched my cup out of my hand.  Ok, I exaggerate.  But, I mean, really, just because we paid for the bill doesn't mean that we don't want to digest for a little longer and enjoy our warm coffees.  SHEESH! And by the way, server that I had last night.  SMILE.  If you don't feel like it, at least fake it.  Trying to celebrate a birthday here.  Thanks. Overall, based on the food, worth a shot.  Oh, and they have like 20 valet people, so service will be good.

Sitting atop the W Hotel Hollywood is one of Los Angeles's most luxurious restaurants and nightclubs.  Drai's Hollwyood is Victor Drai's latest venture.  Victor Drai is a behemoth in the club world.  He owns the wildly successful Drai's After Hours in Las Vegas, he is co-owner of XS nightclub at Encore and Tryst nightclub inside the Wynn Las Vegas.  Along with owning the nightclub world, he also produced Weekend At Bernie's.  One of my all time favorites movies.  When Victor Drai does anything, it is major.   The restaurant at Drai's Hollywood is no exception. Drai enlisted Patrick Florendo to take over the kitchen and deliver world class dishes.  Florendo learned his craft at CIA and Jean Georges Spice Market in New York, San Francisco's Farallon, and Las Vegas' Tableau. When I went to eat at Drai's, I had my eye set on two dishes.  The Mac n Cheese and the signature Filet Mignon Pepper Steak. The Mac n Cheese was prepared with a mixture of parmesan and fontina cheeses, a Spanish Pork Chorizo and bread crumbs.  Fontina cheese is known to be pungent with intense flavor.  I really enjoyed this.  I respond to intense flavors.  The fontina added a sharpness that I appreciated.  It worked really well with the Spanish Pork Chorizo.  The chorizo was marinated in vinegar.  The bitterness from the chorizo was a nice addition.  It also gave the dish more character.  There was not a whole lot of chorizo so each bite was different.  Another thing I really liked was that the dish came out warm, not boiling; this allowed the cheese to coagulate.  This is imperative to get the full flavor of the cheeses.  I was impressed with the Mac n Cheese. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is a signature dish at Drai's and it is for good reason.  The corn-fed beef is hand selected by chef *Patrick Florendo.*  The peppercorn sauce is prepared with green peppercorns that are harvested when the berry is immature.  They offer a fresher flavor.  The peppercorn sauce is then reduced.  This thickens the sauce and intensifies the flavor. I only eat filet medium rare.  You should do the same.  This steak was cooked to perfection.  The outside was just tough enough so that it was not chewy.  Once my teeth broke through the exterior, the middle of the steak melted into my mouth like butter.  It was so succulent and flavorful.  The spice from the peppercorn sauce was the perfect compliment to the savory flavors from the corn-fed beef.  I made sure to drag each bite across the plate, sopping up the creamy peppercorn sauce to intensify each bite.  The steak was so tasty I actually dreaded swallowing each bite.  This steak could easily stack up against the likes of Mastro's Steakhouse and BOA. If you are looking for a luxurious ambiance, a breath-taking view of Los Angeles and world class food, Drai's Hollywood is your place. 7 out of 7 stars. GLUTTONY The best of the best.

I didn't even know this place existed. I have to give it a three because I do not know how this place is when its a nightclub or the turnout for happy hour. I went to 330 for a private documentary screening produced by a popular athlete and a husband of a famous actress. I was surprised to see how nice this place was once the lights came on. Two bars sent up on each side and a decent size bathroom. The dance floor was proportional and minimal amount of sitting for VIP or regular patrons. I might give this place a look see the next time I'm looking for nightclub action in SOMA district.
