by jean m. on This place likes to leave flyers on the cars of the residents nearby which end up getting plastered on your windshield when it rains and ends up all over the street. In the age of the internet there has to be better ways to advertise than pissing off all of your neighbors. The crowd is rowdy too (whenever they have an event there are always 2 or 3 cops driving around).
by Rhonda C. on I gotta say, I liked Fado's from the word go. The bar has a nice, wide-open feel to it, which makes it hard to feel too crowded. I also liked the mix of people around - businessmen still in their casual office attire stopped for a drink to the cute hotties hanging around the bar - all attractive, I must say. Oh yeah - and there was food and drink as well. Not a big wine list, but a few good choices. I can't really speak to the beer selections as I didn't have any (I know, what was I doing at an Irish Pub, right?) but I have to say the food was a lot nicer than I would expect at a "pub". The quesadillas were different in a deliciously good way (not a tortilla but a thicker shell made of a light potato pancake) and the cheese dip and wedges were gooey goodness. The chicken tenders were very tasty and surprisingly light - done tempura with a side of honey mustard. I also sampled one of the mini cheeseburgers and immediately wished we'd ordered more. They were cute little thick burgers with cheese, french fried onion strings, pickles and a great sauce. I had the blue crunch salad, which was big but I ate every last bite. We had to try the Harvest Bread Pudding with apples, cinnamon and sugar. It was awesome! I loved the cinnamon and sugar with the vanilla ice cream on top - yum!!! I'll definitely be back for more before long. Thanks for taking care of our crazy group, Fado's!
by Erna Laible on The Phoenix lives by it's name. Although I've never seen it burn down, the menu changes every time I stop in. Another good name for the Phoenix might be Chameleon, because I swear this place transforms depending on the time of day and day of the week. Why? Might you ask? Well ... 1. During Happy Hour, from 5-7, Phoenix offers cheap-o apps. Recently, they changed happy hour from half-priced apps to an exclusive happy hour menu. Still, great deals, such as a $4 cheeseburger and fries. Great for groups. 2. Around 8-9 PM, the Phoenix begins to remove its tables, lower the lights, prop the stage for the DJ, and open the doors to the night prowlers. Stop in for 80s night and dance on the benches. 3. And, as Tom E. mentioned, and I have partaken, on the usual Saturday, this places opens up for English Premiere League Football. It truly is the place to be, no cover charge, and edible English breakfast. But beware, if you've got a ManU vs Liverpool matchup ... watch out for swinging fists! Unfortunately, general service is just so-so and the food isn't anything special. But if you come for any of the above reasons, you're sure to be satisfied.
