Copa is great. I took my bachelorette party here for salsa dancing and I have performed here with Austin Samba School. The bartender Beto is awesome. The owner hosted Austin Samba School rehearsals there for a long time and he hosts Brazilian themed benefits and celebrations like the recent one for Dida women's organization and another to raise money for a musician who is ill. Anyway this is a great place so patronize it!

Oh my where do I begin? 1. I played phone& email tag for over a week to reserve a table. 2. When my party arrived (30+ people) they did not have a copy of the guest list names I emailed, instead they told me to pick which friends I would let in for free. Talk about awkward. So I ended up having all the guys pay $20, while the girls went in for free. 3. While waiting to go inside, the bouncers told all my guy friends to tuck their shirts in. There were other guys (not from my group) going inside without their shirt tucked in. Therefore the whole shirt thing was pointless because they untucked their shirts once they went inside. Plus the person I reserved the table with said that the dresscode was chill so WTF was that all about. 4. Since my group was big they insisted that I pay for a big table that had a 6 bottle minimum. My friends do not all drink & bottles are $350+ 5. If you are a guest of a VIP table there is a girl with a clip board that writes a number on your hand. Most of my group had the number, but I wasted an hour & a half looking for that girl so she could mark the people she missed. 6. They eventually upgraded to a bigger table and the girl said she would comp 2 more bottles of champagne but we never saw that. Over all we had 2 Hen 2 Vodka. It was a nice place full of fobby looking folks & douche bag workers. I do not think I'll ever go back =)

They have the strangest bills...Carmaig de Forest opening up for Television? Faun Fables opening for Slint? My buddy and I just opted to see headliners Mission of Burma play last nite and miss the opening band this time. $20 to see one band, albeit legendary post-punk geniuses, is a tad pricey but that's the way it is in the City. Coulda shelled out $13 and seen'em in Sacto the next night, but the ambience here is unbeatable. Given the acoustics, you sort of have to make a choice. In the pit up front where you can get spit on by the band, the sound mix can be somewhat lacking, tho when I saw Radio Birdman it was a thrill having Chris Masuak's Marshall Stack blare the guitars louder as they shoulda been on record. Since I'd seen Mission of Burma at their last local show at the Fillmore, I didn't feel a need to see beads of sweat form on them, and stayed back where the sound was far better. There is an upstairs balcony type thing, but that was a bit too disengaged for me. It's fun to stand until your back hurts. Walking past the Mitchell Brothers O Farrel theater after the show is always funny, as throngs of japanese dudes come spilling out.
