Wow, I had fun AND I was sober?!?!? When I use "fun" and "sober" in the same sentence, it is normally a conundrum to those that party with me. BUT, I can say without a doubt that last night at Sloane it was ONE of the few times that I've ever had fun sober (I had 3 drinks, but I have such a high tolerance that the alkie never hit me). My girls and I came to Sloane (formerly Duplex) last night for Tempo Thursdays at 11:15 PM. L I N E Less than a minute wait. C O V E R Normally, it's FREE if you're on the GL before 11 PM and $10 thereafter, but last night there was NO cover ALL night (I would not pay cover for Sloane and you'll read why later). D R E S S  C O D E None that I know of (except no hats); there were guys in t-shirts, hoodies, and chucks. If I've known, I would have worn my Uggs so at least I could have been eye level with some people. M U S I C Loved the Old School Hip-Hop, 90's Throwbacks, Mash-Ups and a couple of Top 40s thrown in the mix. My BIGGEST gripe is the DJ kept changing the tracks every minute, so I kept getting thrown-off every time I was anticipating the chorus. Thanks for playing Stereo Love though for all but 45 seconds. B A R One large bar with 3 bartenders whom are quite efficient despite the large crowd (well it's a tiny place). It took about 5 minutes to get a drink at the busiest times. No minimum for CC's. Apparently, you can buy bottles at the bar because we met a guy who bought a 750ml bottle of Henny for $150 who went around feeding shots to people. Thanks, Will for feeding two of my girls and good attempt on trying to feed me and my other girl (we were both DDs). D R I N K S CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP, and did I say CHEAP? Prices seem to vary from bartender to bartender which was odd, but top shelf (i.e. Remy, Goose, Patron) shots and cocktails were ONLY $6-7! However, there is a VERY LIMITED liquor selection with a majority of the selection being vodka and various vodka flavors. C R O W D As we know, the crowd of a bar/lounge/club is dependent on the promoters. Currently, it seems Sloane uses in-house promoters. In any event, the crowd last night was 90% ASIAN, the younger (21-25), more ghetto fab and hipster Asians to be exact. A 3:1 guy to girl ratio, so yes, it was a sausage fest. This type of crowd is normally not my scene because I feel old enough as is and I don't want to feel like I'm hollaring at my younger sisters' friends. I don't holler at guys at clubs, but just saying. :X HOWEVER, I met some really social and down-to-earth people that striked up a friendly conversation. I love meeting new people, so it was a welcome change to talk with guys without the awkwardness that they were hollering or had any underlying intentions. (Except for the 50+ year old relentless creepster that would not leave us alone. He kept following us and getting in our faces so I got very annoyed and it wasn't until I firmly told him, my girls and I do not like men and that we were married to each other did he then get the effen point. Good thing he didn't ask us to "prove" it. *phew*) A M B I A N C E / D É C O R Contemporary and sleek, yet rustic with dark woods, exposed brick walls and lit up bar with a flat screen playing nostalgic movies like Gremlin which was playing last night. As of now, Sloane is more like an oversized bar and NOT a club as it's categorized as. It's like the old John Colins; walk in and there's a large bar to the left and as you walk towards the bathroom, there's a "dance floor" which is like the size of a bedroom. There's a loft area upstairs with 3 table service areas overlooking the crowd. This is the main reason why I wouldn't want to pay cover at Sloane. If I'm going to pay cover, I'll do it for an actual club that I can dance in. HOWEVER, Sloane is currently renovating and will be adding an additional 5,000 square feet which will include a dedicated dance floor, an elevated stage, VIP areas, 2 bars and more restrooms which will then make it a real "club". To be revealed on their NYE bash. R E S T R O O M S 2 men and 2 women restrooms with a bathroom attendant so it was clean. When there's no yack and/or pee on the toilet seat or floor that's always a good sign right? P A R K I N G Very easy street parking but note that there's street cleaning every day on Mission Street at 2 AM. There are no nearby parking lots that are open late; most close at 6 PM. How do I know? I work a block away and had my car stuck at a lot once because I was working past "business" hours. Sloane proved that I can have fun and be sober at the same time, but then again I was with good company. I would definitely come back for Industry Tuesdays and Tempo Thursdays when I'm looking for a chill, recession-friendly night with good music. I can't wait to see when the renovation and expansion is over. Will Sloane possibly be the newest and hottest nightclub in SF??? That we shall see...

Apple is the sister restaurant to Butter in New York.  We met with the General Manager there who gave us the official tour.  Apple boasts an outdoor patio, downstairs basement dance club, mid-level dining area and also an additional back lounge still under construction. The patio of this place is small, intimate and very pretty.  It has this custom-made couch that extends a story high so it blocks off the noise and traffic from neighboring clubs. The food here was phenomenally good.  Good thing, because the prices on their menu were phenomenally sky-high...no kidding. You best bring your wallet, even by WeHo standards.  The chef intricately infused each dish with food items and textures you didn't think were possible.   Here's a summary of what we ate: - Prime rib (medium rare) - cooked to my liking, the light pink juices ran down my plate with each cut.  It was paired with mushrooms, a light cream sauce, a cake made of cabbage (?), and baby carrots - Pesto Risotto - small portion size, but very flavorful. - Chicken with potato cake - the potato cake a bit salty, but the texture was amazingly light and crisp.  The balance between the chicken and potato cake was perfect. - **Frog legs - delicious!!! Whoa crap.  For those slightly squeamish types, you'd never know this was frog legs. They minced the meat, mixed it with a Greek black olive salsa and wrapped it all up in a delicate canape.  Was able to convince my two (very squeamish) gal pals to try it.  Best way I've had frog legs to date. - Rock shrimp tempura appetizer - small size, but tempura coating was solid - Tuna Tartare - served on a soup soon, chef places a delicate potato cake at the bottom of the tuna which adds weight to the bite Drinks -Promegranate mojito - solid -Black cherry - too, too sweet for my taste -Grey Goose lime-aid- a bit too tart for my taste, but good if you like sweet/sour The whole patio turns into a outdoor lounge.  So the restaurant tables are moved after about 10:30 to make room for bottle service tables. Crowd there was pretty darn good looking considering the sample size.  Only drawback of the space is that because the Patio is so narrow and rectangular you are constantly being bumped and pushed aside for bustling waiters and people moving around. Side note: We saw 2 B-List celebrities, 1 D-list celeb and 1 Z -lister all in one night.  Not too shabby. I would definitely go back here again for the restaurant.  One of the more innovative gourmet restaurants I've had on the Westside
