by Ida C. on There was a time in my wayward youth (read 1 year ago) when this was my typical Tuesday schedule: Daytime - Work / gym / shower 9:00pm - Nap 1:30am - Hot rollers / makeup / sequins! 2:30am - AVENUE! 4:00am... And on those precious weeks when I feeling particularly adventurous, there would be some rinsing and repeating for Wednesday! I was still netting ~7 hours of sleep a night, and having a ton of fun! I'm not sure why we stopped, but maybe we'll reinstate it! Best seat in the house is upstairs. You get a fantastic view of the glamourous and often eclectic crowd (I'm talking to you girl with the 1 foot tall totem pole hairdo and hemp clothing who hangs out with the European royals) and plenty of room to get comfortable. There are two tables up there, and the small one (2 seater) is great for a late night date or a girl's night out while the other table is better for a group outing. It can probably seat 6, but I've seen 25 people dancing up there between the table top and the couches. Plenty of opportunities to go downstairs for a closer look if you spot someone intriguing...and you get to strut down the stairs...hello grand entrance! Be aware that Avenue is gonna cost you. Better break open the piggy bank for this one. Food isn't particularly good, so stick to drinks...or bottles, you whale! PARTING THOUGHT: Avenue doesn't get good on weeknights until about 2/2:30am, so time your pre-nap / pre-game / hot rollering accordingly
by Laveta Sahara on If it wasn't for this club's exclusiveness it might get more than two stars. However here's what we experienced.... Went here for my 21st birthday with a group of friends after it had been recommended to us by some LA locals. Our first mistake was getting there so late (1 am). By that time they didn't care who we were, we weren't getting in. There was barely a line (maybe 8 of us total) and they weren't budging. My boyfriend finally pulled one of the bouncers aside and I don't know what he told him, but he got us in... and they gave us free VIP passes for the next night to a different club they promoted. By the time they were so eager to let us in, our attitudes were so against them we barely even wanted to go inside. Once inside we experienced the loudest most crowded club I have ever been too. The theme is true however, it is set up like a house. There's a 'bedroom' upstairs that opens down to the dancefloor. A living room off of the dancefloor with some couches and tables. And even an outdoor 'backyard' with a guy grilling hotdogs for $5 a piece. Our party got immediately separated and it took us almost the rest of the evening there for find them. By the time we did, it was already 2am and the club was closing. I had a good time only because of the people I was with. I would highly suggest getting there early to avoid line and possibly cover. After midnight it may be near impossible to get in. Do NOT appear intoxicated in any way or they will not let you in at all. Other than that it seems like a pretty swank and hip club with a great DJ - just GET THERE EARLY!
by Faye Calixtro on Diverse crowd. Two floors of different types of music. But very crowded. If you don't guestlist it, it's a $20 cover, which is pretty standard for all clubs similar to this. My hugest gripe though, is that it is located in a very sketchy neighborhood. I would recommend cabbing it. No better way to ruin your night of fun than worrying about whether or not a bum got into your car and found the hidden stash of liquor underneath your seats...
