This place was just a let-down.. It sounded like a nice place for our friends to have their white elephant Christmas exchange and dinner.. But the food and service almost ruined it all for me. Jillian has a full/huge bar and pool tables and it's also a nice almost classy restaurant. So there was about 15+ people in our party, which I swear to severs it never means they have to work hard since it's automatic gratuity. So it gives them a right to be a dick of a server? I'm not sure but my bf and I came 30 mins later than when everyone else arrived. We were sitting there waiting for the server to arrive so we could order. We waited and waited until I got fed up and had to physically get up and walk around to hunt A server down. Not just OUR server (didn't know what he looked like) but it took about 5 mins of walking around for me to find one and ask them of they could get us a drink. We ordered and our food came out.. It was disappointing. The Marguerite pizza tasted like cardboard.. Frozen pizza tastes much better! The calamari were soggy and I honestly can't rememer the rest of the food. /sighs it was just expensive. I wouldve been happier with Mc Donalds. Oh well.

So I get it  but not as a venue for the Cuckoo Club. I did not know that the Sunday night Gay Night at Hiro was called Cuckoo Club til I looked it up ahead of time and learned that for some odd reason this night was now at "The Park". The Park is ill equipped to host this theme.  First, I waited nearly an hour on the line.  I don't wait on lines.  But some how I kept convincing myself that it wouldn't take much longer.  Ok, I must have done that a lot. I don't know what happened. Let me say that once inside I discovered that this was really poor line management.  The club was so empty.  This seems like a cool venue but not for the party at hand.  No. The go go boys sort of have to find a ledge to dance on so as a previous reviewer wrote, they seem inappropriate here. At Hiro, they each have their perch with proper lighting for their ass crack and the dancefloor is big.  Here the dancefloor is in front of a fireplace. Practical its not. If Hiro doesn't retake this night, then I wont be going back to the oddly name CuckooClub on future trips to NYC which is a shame because I so looked forward to Hiro Sundays.

Hmmm... I have to say in terms of decor/ambiance... this is a stunning restaurant.  How can you not be stunned at a HUGE Buddha floating on a pond???  One wall is exposed brick - 3 stories - and the other wall is cushioned in raw silk. The proprietors intended to make the restaurant an experience for the eyes.  Dark wood tables and chairs, Chinese writing on huge paper screens hanging from the ceiling, coi in the pond, stone and wood statutes watching from the perimeter, and strangely... they continued the immersion to the bathroom doors, which were labeled "yin" and "yang".   I waited with a group of confused women in the hall, wondering which was the ladies rest room because we didn't want to walk-in on a man going pee.  The "yin" is the ladies room, btw.  Seriously,  they should give some sort of clue. The food can be served family style or as individual entrees. Memorable entree was the fried snapper. Decadent dessert was the incredibly large fortune cookie - seriously, it's LARGE.  AND it came w/ 4 naughty fortunes! The remaining drinks, entrees and desserts were okay.  I find I can only criticize them, so I won't bother to explain.  Suffice it to say that they lived up to the mediocrity of Midtown restaurants - meaning, if you're looking for authentically good Asian food, go to an authentic Asian restaurant.
