My first experience here was not a good one at all.  I was on a guestlist for a friend's birhtday party and we get there over an hour before they start charging cover, which is $20, but they made us wait there for about an hour before letting our group in.  I was near the end of the line of my group and as soon as I get to the bouncer, he says that I can't go in because of my shoes.  Is leather Rockport shoes going to tear up their dance floor?  Then my other friend behind me couldn't get in either.  So as I stood there trying to show proof that these aren't cheapass shoes, I slowly see my group of friends disappear one by one through the doors.  And there's no re-entry to this place, so they couldn't come back out to try to get us in or meander around with us.  So determined to eventually came in after driving an hour to get here, we waited for about an hour or so until the bouncer changed.  We went back in line at that point, the new bouncer saw no problems with our attire and paid our $20 to get in.  I got the birthday girl a drink finally, stayed for an hour, and it was time to bounce.  Stupid bouncer.  If I was 150 pounds bigger and in shape and trained in MMA, then I'd have a talk with the guy and give him a piece of my mind. I went there for a second time for a birthday and I made sure to wear a different pair of leather dress shoes.  We didn't get there on time and paid the $20, but surprisingly there was a lot less people there than last.  Downstairs is still crowded like a rave, but upstairs was relatively tame compared to that.  I never felt like this place was worth it especially in the shady area that it's located.  I would not go here by myself and be careful of those who insist to give you "protection" for your car... for a fee, of course, and it's non-negotiable.

So the new Tongue and Groove is where the old Lotus Lounge used to be. Let's just say....the spot was much better when it was Lotus. They tried to upgrade the place, and I just don't feel like they succeeded. So we walk in, and run into the coolest bouncer ever....Mr. Michael and we get our whole party in. Well we get inside and are looking around to see how the place has changed, and what.....around the bar their is a big HOLE around the top of it (where the old lotus used to be surrounding the bar)...... can you say TACKY? I mean really, who revamps a venue only to leave a huge gaping hole above the bar (where most people will be hanging around at a club) where you can see the baseboards and pipes and stuff. Ok well so we move on.....I must say the music was about the only thing that this place had going for them that night. (A Thursday night). The music was great, but the crowd was not my style. It was a much older crowd, I want to say between 30-40. I mean their were a few "youngin's" thrown in the mix, but majority were older. Granted, maybe this was just a bad night to go, but I didn't enjoy myself !!! (And it's very rare that I don't enjoy myself at a club).....LoL

This is a really cozy, tucked away spot that I think is really old. If you're looking for somewhere to watch sports on a small TV out of the corner of your eye while whispering sweet nothings to your date who is eating something hearty and delicious from the modestly priced menu, this is your place. They had Christmas caroling for the holidays, and even passed out the words to all the songs the band was singing. I bet it's great in the summer too.
