by Nathanael Pottier on I think this place is a fantastic spot for 2 reasons. Value for money - the beers were only $5 as opposed to 9 or something insane like that. Above all though the atmosphere and view from sitting atop a series of ships with a central bar area on the dock... can't beat it. Early in the evening on weekdays you don't even have to worry about hostesses, reservations or any of that bother. Just go up to the bar, get yourself a drink and plomp yourself on an available table anywhere you like.
by molly f. on I love Stephen Starr restaurants and Continental Midtown is no exception. The food is fun, the atmosphere lively, and the decor...well for me its all about the feel of his themed restaurants. Midtown does a fabulous job of invoking a 70's lounge feel with the sunken booths, the swinging hanging chairs, and the retro table seating. Though not the most practical (eating in a hanging, swinging chair can prove challenging), eating at Contentinal Midtown is always fun, and though its a little pricy...you pay for the experience. The menu can be hit or miss...they have a lot of random asian themed dishes which seems a little odd for the decor, but in general I've been happy with my dishes. Recently I had french onion soup wontons/dumplings, and they were quite good, albeit a little rich...but its fun to take risks with their menu there because they really get playful with their food. also love the outfits the waiters wear...

When your sound system was calibrated, whomever was responsible somehow made it so evenly spaced out that there really isn't a bum spot in the house. AMAZING. 2. You have four (count 'em, FOUR) bars scattered around -- my God, it's really easy for a bloke to get a drink. 3. Your design is spacious and gracious. You can't get lost, and it's fairly easy to traverse you without running into a logjam of people heading in the same direction. 4. Your bathrooms! My God, man ... they're so ... CLEAN. Not that I'd want to, but your black porcelain looks clean enough to eat off of. 5. Your smoking lounge in the back with the chip and candy vending machine is really, uh, SMOKING. You even have a DJ out there on some nights spinning mash-ups? EXCELLENT! 6. I don't know who does your booking, but a whole hell of a lot of the bands and DJ's who have played there lately are pretty fucking stellar. LADYTRON? Check. PUBLIC ENEMY (with the entire original lineup)? Check. GHOSTFACE KILLAH? Hell yeah. HOT CHIP? Yep. SHE WANTS REVENGE? PRESETS? EVERY MOVE A PICTURE? LOVEMAKERS? Yes, check, you betcha, and affirmative. Oh, Mezzanine. You do make me happy, when I do get around to crossing your threshold and making you my most pleasing host. Keep it up, you darling club, you.
