The place is nice but the service was horrible! I made reservation but the host told us to wait. We looked around and there were a lot of empty tables. We waited 15mins and about 20 people got seated after us. My boyfriend went up and asked the host, how much longer do we have to wait. The host looked at him like he has never seen him before and finally brought us to the table. Our waiter was not attentive at all, didn't even give me utensils. The food and the Jazz show was really good but the service was awful. I will not go back and eat there again!!

I have a love-hate relationship with this place too (like James J). The pros are that the bartenders are super-cute, the crowd seems fun, and the music is really good. Also, the drinks are reasonably priced and the location allows for decent (comparably) parking. The cons are that the nicest area in the place is designated for smokers, the lines for the bathroom are crazy-long, and the stairways are so narrow that they get treacherous by your second drink. Still... cute bartenders and cute crowd trumps most any other complaint in my book... :-)

This review has no semblance of objectivity. If you're genuinely finicky about things like "quality" and "taste," you might want to go elsewhere. I *love* the Kong. The food is too lacking in any kind of nutrients to make it a regular in my Harvard Square rota, but it's delicious! Everything tastes just like the tacky Chinese restaurant of your suburban childhood (for me, Fantasy Island in Salem or the inimitable Kowloon in Saugus) and the lunch specials are wicked cheap! When I go here, I eat 1/2 and get the rest to go - lunch for two days for under $10. The waitress is always the same cheerful Vietnamese woman whom I tip gratuitously...in fact I think it's time for me to go back... We've also done several work nights out here to truly epic results (one time resulted in the tasteful boob montage, forever memorialized in my flickr photos). The unabashedly boozy scorpion bowls will do the trick to get any random group to agree to take lurid photos and dance sleazily with each other (and strangers). For a work do, we'll get there around 7 or 8, and the place will be empty. As the night goes on, the bar will slowly fill up, and you know it's time to leave when the drug dealers outnumber the faux-ironic-actually-just-alcoholic Harvard students two to one. The best dive in Harvard Sq, with sentimentally delicious Chinese grub.
