I'm a BIG foodie and love to restaurant hop and have thought about joining rateclubs before to review several other places but strike 2 at XIV helped me click the Join button. I'll start off by saying the service here is AMAZING. All the servers, bartenders, and even the hostess were on their best behavior and very polite. Since this was my second time here, it seems like great service here is at least consistent. This time, my friend and I ate off the dineLa menu and ordered: Appetizer: Tataki of American Wagyu Skirt Entree: Grilled Salmon/Jidori Chicken Dessert: Nutella Custard/Yuzu Curd Appetizer - This was our best part of the meal. Cooked perfectly. Seasoned perfectly. Yum. What more should I say. Entree - I was debating between the Grilled Salmon and the Jidori Chicken so I asked the server to make a recommendation and well, she basically said the Salmon was to die for. Now, salmon's the last thing I order when I go out to a restaurant. Why? Because I can cook it perfectly on my own. Plus, it's cheap seafood. Since she was so enthusiastic about it, I ordered it. When it came out, it was separated  into two parts and I thought, oh! it must be cooked two ways! WRONG! It's just half of it on the left, and the other half on the right cooked exactly the same way. The salmon? Call me picky, but I hate overcooked salmon. I feel like I'm eating sawdust if it ain't cooked right. And well, this is exactly what it tasted like. For goodness sake, the salted potato the size of my thumb tasted better. I tried some of my friend's chicken and thought hers tasted a lot better - for one, it was cooked nicely. Had the salmon sent back and chose the chicken instead. You think at this point, I'd be satisfied. If you order the chicken, make sure you get a drink to go with it.  A refillable beverage. Granted they're cooked nicely, the chicken along with the mac'n cheese is SO salty; you might feel like a hippo after because you feel so bloated. Maybe you should save the naan you get in the beginning to help offset the saltiness. Bleh. I think I can still taste the salt in my mouth. Dessert - Desserts here are....interesting. For me personally, the flavors are strange. The foam on the nutella custard doesn't seem to go with the rest of it. Take that away and you've got a pretty decent dessert but I'd still rather get a tub of Nutella and eat that with ice cream. As for the Yuzu Curd... interesting as well (but not in a good way). The pistachios are glazed with something salty. The Jasmine Ice cream is pretty flavorless. The curd is pretty tangy. And the pine needle made it taste like i was chewing on a pine tree. I tried to get a taste of everything in one bite and ended up making my eyes twitch because of the crazy flavors. But if that's your kind of dessert, by all means, try it. With every bite, I thought to myself - "what would Tom Colicchio say?" Let's just say that none of the response he had in my imagination were positive. Conclusion: XIV must be Michael Mina's bastard child or something because the food here is subpar and way overrated.

Last night was my first experience at Parish.  I went there with wifey and another couple we haven't seen in a while.  I had already heard good things through the grape vine about Parish and I knew it was a New Orleans inspired menu.  That was about all I knew going into dinner last night.  Valet parking was a nice surprise.  The place wasn't too busy for a Monday evening (I guess) and we were seated without any problem on the patio (it is always great to dine outside when the weather is nice). I ordered the Parish Sausage Trio to begin the meal.  It came with mustard spread over top as well as some on the side.  Oops.  Serves me right for not going through the food allergy questionnaire with my server.  Had to be sent back but a new plate was served quite swiftly.  Each was excellent in its own right and didn't need any mustard (in my opinion).  For the entree I had the Andouille Crusted N.O. Catfish.  It was very light and the breading was nice and crispy.  The garish and tartar sauce were also very good and didn't overpower the catfish at all.  Since all the menus are written on giant chalkboards throughout the restaurant I had to ask many a question about the different items. So what was it about this place that won me over?  Quite simply it was the beer list.  When your beer list is Abita, ABC, and Sweetwater  beers then you have won a place in my heart.  I don't even care if you charge $5 for a pint (cause that is what they actually charge).  The fact you support microbreweries brings a tear to my eye. THE BOTTOM LINE -- This is a great upscale casual restaurant in an already great part of Atlanta.

Yeah, it can be pricey, but it definitely has its moments.  This is one of the best places in the city to get late-night drinks during the summer because of the great rooftop lounge.  But even the interior is fun with funky seating and helpful staff.  They have some interesting drinks, and their french 75 is my favorite drink at the moment -- it is a crisp, smooth blend that isn't nauseatingly sweet like the majority of specialty cocktails.  And I hate to say it, but I'm a sucker for their fried pickles -- they bring out the country in my blood.
