Restaurant Review: 2.5 stars if possible Sat nite, party of 3, no resv.  Getting a table wasn't really a problem considering this wasn't really packed, then again... it was a freezing night out.  The space and decor is beautiful, which may mean it focuses on being a swank place rather than on its food. The food turned out being decent, some better than others.  We started with the lamb samosa, which was tasty with one catch... it was the potato version.  I was pretty disappointed as I'm a big fan of lamb.  For the main course we had 1 little plate and 2 big plates: Malai Kebab (lamb), Paneer Makni (cheese) and Hydrabadi Murgh (chicken).  The Malai Kebab was well seasoned and cook though i don't remember the cream cheese part of it.  The Peneer was just ok, creamy tomato sauce nothing really special. Finally the Hydrabadi Murgh was very tasty and though we didn't specify any type of spice level, it did have a nice background spiciness to it.  With the main course we also had rice and the basket of varietal naan which was more than enough.  Quality wise everything was good, but then you're also paying for it (at least you hope). On the service side... our server seemed very inconsistent, somewhat attentive at first and then when we were ready for the check hard to flag down.  Eventually we were able to grab the check once we grabbed the attention of what seemed to be the owner of the place.  Beyond that, nothing else notable. To summarize, the service was so-so and the food more like modern, but good.  I probably wouldn't return but I wouldn't avoid either.

Was it six months ago? The wait for the doors  to open was toe-numbing and frankly... mean. An hour trickled past door time. The long line shifted from foot to foot until Chan Marshall stepped out of a cab and asked the line, "What are you suckers doing out here? It's freezing!" The refugees followed her into the lantern-lit ballroom. (The cloak  room didn't see much business that night - had to stay warm!)  I don't think the place was heated 'cause I kept my Carhartt on for the whole show! Sapporos were midtown prices, but the bartenders were friendly enough. I made myself at home on the wood floor until Cat power hit the stage.  All the booths and seating seemed awful far away from the action. I guess the layout worked for DJs n' dance nights, but I thought it was a little awkward for a band. I loved the giant wooden beams and gates. The minimal lantern and stage light was refreshingly stripped-down. In the end Chan and friends made the chilly wait well worth it. They were in good form and Hiro's sound was great!

I started reminiscing about all the great (not just good, GREAT) burgers in my life and Player's stood out in my memory. Not only is it chalk full of fond memories of late night outings, they have very tasty burgers, delicious shakes, and fried zucchini. Mmm. As for anything else on the menu, I have no clue. Seriously. Why would you come here for anything BUT the burgers, fried zucchini, and shakes? :) Ok, maybe a big honkin' (yes, honkin' ... I stand by my adjective choice) glass of Shiner beer. I love getting the shakes in the frosty glass with tons of whipped cream, and it's nice that they let you go to town with the chocolate sauce. Maybe it's the memories, the late night grease craving satiation - but either way, I hope that Player's stays in business for the next few decades (along with the old machines and homey, run down feel)!
