I read somewhere that a prix fixe is a value meal in a rented tux. Nonetheless, I love a prix fixe lunch. It curbs indecisiveness and offers an easy way to know exactly how much you will spend without the need to calculate (who really likes math anyways!?!?! hehe). My friend wanted to come here during one of our quarterly shopping trips to NYC and when I saw they had a prix fixe I was on board. I started with the Peking duck spring rolls which were not even remotely reminiscent of Peking duck but were pretty tasty all the same. The Shanghai scallion beef left a little to be desired but was edible although not too different from many take-out Chinese dishes in terms of the taste. The Zen parfait was phenomenal though; I definitely would get it again and this is coming from a guy who is serious about his desserts! My friend decided to forgo the prix fixe and got the Kobe burger instead. Truthfully I was more delighted by his entree than my own as the burger was delicious; luckily we always share! HAHA. I would rate this as 3.5 stars based on the food but our waitress was great and the place has a cool atmosphere (we were seated right next to the koi pond which was full of beautiful, and HUGE, koi). The bathrooms were especially nice (I always take bathrooms into a consideration when rating a nice restaurant) and even had cool (non functioning) pachinko machines mounted to the walls (see pic). Thus, an extra 1/2 star for great service and unique facilities.

DineLA:  one of the best things about living in LA. Valet parking is pretty much a must because there isn't much public parking around this area.  Cost: $10 but if the lot isn't full you can park your own car in the lot for free if space permits. You walk through the parking lot wondering where the door is.  The entrance was a little ambiguous.  I started walking around the corner before one of the valets showed me the way.  haha. Once I walked in, I was greeted by the host immediately, and I was pretty impressed by the decor.  I was there on a Monday and the place was buzzing with a good amount of chatter and music.  We showed up earlier than our reservation, and it was crowded, so we opted to order drinks at the bar, but surprisingly we were seated rather promptly. Great decor and appropriate low lighting.  The fireplaces were well appreciated.  Their decor, carpets, and walls of books = dining in a library. Not too long after that we placed our meal and drink orders.  There were enough people in my group to order each item off the DineLA menu.  So that was a great sampler. The items that just blew our mind holes: Tataki of American Wagyu Skirt, Moroccan Spiced Vegetables - medium rare, and soooo juicy! Grilled Salmon, Braised Celery, La Ratte Potatoes, Meyer Lemon, Herb Pistou -  nice presentation, and you find yourself full after eating one of the two fillets Jidori Chicken, Truffled Macaroni & Cheese, Broccoli, Caramelized Onion -  If you're a mac and cheese person... ::drools:: Nutella Custard, Popcorn Ice Cream, Toast Streusel, Passion Fruit -  hazelnut goodness at its best.  and where else have you ever heard of popcorn ice cream?!?! Yuzu Curd, Sicilian Pistachio Sablé, Jasmine Ice Cream, Pine Needle -  there was this green cake that just screamed green velvet.  to me it was very green tea tasting My only gripe on this overall very pleasant experience:  too much waiting in between course.  After we ordered the moments we saw our server were few and far in between.  I can appreciate taking our time to eat, but here,  it was a little excessive. Other than the wait, I'll definitely be back to enjoy what else this place has to offer. That's pretty much the mission of DineLA, right?

This place is good fun. I can't help but love the decor--I've always been a fan of cheese. And the food is pretty good and fairly priced (esp when considering this is in the heart of Hollywood). It's definitely a fun place to catch dinner with friends. Also, I love that it has a bunch of vegetarian selections!
