This place is CRAZY.  C-R-A-Z-Y. At first I was slighty taken aback by, but then I said to myself, "fuck it," and had an incredible time. Sexy, practically naked boys hopping around, music is a little rough but it totally works at this place. I wouldn't stay here an entire night, but it's a perfect place whilst bar hopping.

Morimoto is everything a restaurant should be: you get a unique food experience with great service in a trendy setting that feels posh but still accessible. I came here last night with several co-workers on a business trip, which was nice because I got to sample a large swath of the menu.  We ordered 4-5 appetizers, the highlights of which were an excellent Octopus Carpaccio and the 10-hour Pork Kakuni, the latter so tender it literally melted in your mouth.  The tuna pizza was pretty good too; and I also had a piece of fatty tuna sashimi, tiny but yummy. My main dish, the "Tai Shioyaki", was the coup de grace.  It was a large white fish called sea bream, which had light and flaky flesh in a gently crispy skin.  The dish came with the chef's instructions to sprinkle smoked sea salt over it, then cover in hot white butter sauce, and lastly, dip in spicy ponzu (a tart, citrus sauce).  The result was divine--the best fish dish I've ever had. There wasn't a single thing I tried that was not at least very good.  I sampled the popular "duck duck duck" entree featured a terrific roast duck that was moist and crispy.  My dessert of chocolate pot de creme was a good finish.  If I had a complaint at all, the only one would be that Morimoto's cocktails really ought to be larger or stronger given the price.  But the drinks were still good; the cilantro gimlet was especially popular among a few of my colleagues. Dinner came to a little over $100 per person but felt well worth it.  This was among my favorite restaurant meals ever.  If you're in Philly, check out Morimoto!

Medjool is more like a bed pool of swarming DNA aptly located in the famous Mission District.  This place has a dress code to pass itself off as chic when in fact it comes off as reek. The prices here are outrageous.  $16 for a tuna tar tare that was nothing more than the size of my thumb earns my middle finger.   To comment on the other dishes would be a waste of typing strength because it was more of the same.  Lets face it, you guys aren't Gary Danko to be charging that! The drinks were moderately priced before the place turns into a dance club.  Afterwards the price remained the same but they put them in the same size cups you get on Delta, US Airways and Continental.  You get the picture.  Charge the same amount, deliver it in a smaller package.  (Guys in Porsche's would love to pull that off wouldn't they?) We were up in the mezzanine and got to sit in grossly uncomfortable couches.  I wouldn't dare take an ultraviolet light to these but I'm comfortable believing the couches used to take on a different color.  Not to mention the cushions are so worn that when you sit, it caves in so deep you're almost sitting on the floor again. When the place turns into a "dance club" at night you get your share of steroid grease-balled Guido's, Asians wearing sunglasses at night, and Indians with too much Drakkar Noir.   Drakkar Noir was okay, like in 7th grade when I went to the school dance weighing all of 100 pounds but now it's just the crap you pick up at Walgreens while you're probably stuffing your wallet with that extra small condom ... not cool guys. For the prices, ambiance and overall experience I think I'd rather spend a night home watching Titanic and shaving my balls.
