If you want to see a perfect example of bad service, you just might have found your place. This is as bad as it gets, folks. I've been here twice and had near identical experiences. The atmosphere is nice and it's great to have a wine bar option in the Castro, but service stinks. We ordered drinks that never came and fought for the servers' attention many times. It was funny, at one point we were just sitting there laughing at the two servers behind the bar texting on their cell phones, as customers where trying to order more glasses of wine. You could just see money floating out the door as people were giving up and heading out. FIx the service and this place would be a great Castro alternative.

I would consider this music with food (vs. food with music). Saw Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers--Loved them. Sound level: Good (meaning that I didn't feel like my ears were going to be blown out. However it is loud enough that general conversation would probably be difficult) Size of venue: cozy and appropriate Food: OK, but skip the sampler. Service: We had no issues, but I should point out that everyone showed up pretty much all at the same time. If you're there for food to go with your performance, consider going a touch earlier than usual, and with good company--you won't notice the passing of time. We only got antsy when they dimmed the lights but took a bit longer than expected to start the performance. Restrooms: limited

Four stars, but not for the food (although the lasagna was not bad at all and only $10 for lunch) which is average and overpriced. However, Jillian's is the best upscale sports bar in the city. Tons of nice tvs, pool tables, and what I've found to be a cheery staff. Yes yes, drinks aren't cheap, but you can't try to compare the atmosphere to 4th street bar/deli across the street. If you're looking for cheap food and drinks and a loud, dark environment, Jillian's isn't your place. If you want a great hang-out place where you feel comfortable and don't mind having only a decent burger and beer for $17, Jillian's is solid.
