by Amish S. on I planned a party here for 40-50 people on a Tuesday. We got a solid two hour happy hour deal (all beer's were $3, well 1/2 off) and they brought in a DJ. Its a small place, and gets crowded on weekends, but we essentially had the place to ourselves and had a blast. The bartender did a great job as well.
by David Z. on I'm sad over this review. I've been eating at El Sol Y La Luna for over a decade- back in the days when it was on South Congres (before SoCo was the trendy area it is today). Back when they had the cheesy teal booths- before the gliterry gold ones, even. Back when mosquitos would bite your legs if you sat in in the corner of the restaurant. Back in the old days, the atmosphere and neighborhood were awful but the food and the service were good. The same wait staff had been there for years. And they had a large menu with many tasty, affordable dishes to chose from. Then they moved to the corner of 6rh and Red River. Nothing good ever happens to restaurants on 6th street. The couple of times we've eaten there, the portions have been smaller, the food has been "off" and the service has not been very good. The seats weren't very comfortable (even the cheesy gold ones were at least comfortable at the old place). The flan tasted bland and had a grainy consistency like ricotta. And the whole time we were there, we were treated to a homeless person in a wheelchair with a recent amputation and a bloody gauze bandage sitting outside the window begging for money. Why a good Austin-y restaurant would move to a more expensive address on 6th street is a mystery. Why a restaurant would sacrifice the thing that made it a fun place- the good food- for an address where there's no parking and less pleasant milleu is just confounding. It's just sad. So very sad.

It was a Friday and generally I'll be working but tonight its suppose be some crazy stuff happening at Vanguard. Getting to know a promoter is always the first step into getting in a club. So I have that covered. Sweet! The line was freaking long ass hell. But hey you can't blame me for being beautiful and just walking in. ha ha j/k I wish thats how I could work it. Anyhow being inside for the first time I thought the spot was cool. The crazy thing about this place its not fancy or posh looking or anything. There two dance floors and one hella big patio. Going outside is like a hike. I seriously was glad I didn't go to the gym hiking up the stairs to head to the dance floor was enough exercise for me. It was too crowded but it was a bunch of girls everywhere. Pretty awesome. It was all the asian people from everywhere. We got the K-town, J-town, Chinatown, and don't forget the real chinatown SGV. Music was good. I will probably like here more if it wasn't too crowded .. They hit capacity that night 2200 it was insane...next time I'll go when its not too crazy! First time here and yea not too bad..needs a better lighting inside the place and thats about it!
