by Cat C. on Came here for my friend's b-day last Saturday. I've only been to the Mission during the day, so I didn't know what to expect at night (I prayed that there wouldn't be too many hipsters)! The Good: *Great music, though the bf said the DJ looked like he should be working at Google! *No stupid ghetto people *Diverse crowd *Plenty of seats The OK/Sucky: *$10 cover after 10pm....for a lounge/bar??! *Drinks were okay. *Some of the prices for drinks are a little up there for a non-fancy place that's in the Mission. I did have fun, but I just hate hate paying cover, it ain't even a club! And the only clubs I see worth paying cover for are in Vegas, though I've only paid once out there! Maybe I'd come back another night...before 10...but who likes to get there early, it's all about coming fashionablly late when it comes to clubbing/lounging!

Sort of remember being inside of swig d.) Cannot, for the life of me, figure out why my arm is cut up and bruised so badly But I now know this - Manhattans are supposed to go into martini glasses for a very specific reason... that reason is quantity and volume control. In a larger glass (which looks better than a martini glass and makes it far less compelling to stick your pinky out), you tend to get more substance which is good if you're planning to have 1 or 2 drinks... given the amount that was poured last night (starting at 111 Minna and granting that I'm old now and cannot seem to process my liquor as well as I used to), more than 2 is not such a good thing. you get 4 stars because the music is way too fucking loud, 111 Minna. I can't even hear the people that I know - how do you expect me to meet someone I don't know?? it is no fun to shout into someone's ear. the extreme vibration that it causes the little tiny and sensitive hairs in that person's ear makes them hate you immediately, no matter how good you are at generating small talk. but the Manhattans... the Manhattans are solid, so thank you for that. and you hosted a Henry Rollins spoken word event about a year ago, so thank you for that as well. just turn down that mediocre dance club music. play some House, or Modest Mouse - something that creates a space conducive to a lively conversation...
by Jennifer M. on Oh Loca Luna. Your Horny Brazilians can kill a person. Thanks to a couple of those I ended up having to carry one of my friends back to the car. But hey, the drinks may be expensive, but at least they're strong. I love their mango mojitos as well. Pure deliciousness. I finally had a chance to try their food (just a bit though) and it was delicious! I had their asparagus, which was topped with some random wonderful sauce. I love the live band they have on Friday and Saturdays. It might be because the only type of music I can dance to with any small sense of dignity is latin music. Either way, Loca Luna is also pretty casual. I usually wear a shirt, jeans, and sneakers and usually don't feel terribly out of place. Only reason it gets 4 not 5 stars: I don't know if I'm the only girl who has a problem with this, but this seems to be a prime place for guys who are well over twice my age to hit on me. It really creeps me out, especially since I look younger than I am. I guess be prepared for that, but anyway Loca Luna's a pretty cool place!
