We went here last night for a bachelorette party which besides birthdays seems to be the only good reason to come to a show.  Just for the novelty of the experience you have to check it out.  The guys had abs that wouldn't quit and it was fun to be with a ton of girls screaming like we were back in our teens.  Definitely cheesy as someone said - they might want to consider NOT lip-syncing because it just looks silly. Our waiter was a little too busy pushing his face in a couple of our table's crotches and not enough time getting us decent drinks.  We all had a couple drinks with no buzz what-so-ever.  The "host" says we need to get drunk..blah..blah but then they make us WEAK drinks.  So if you want to be a little buzzed then sneak something in cause you ain't getting it inside. Also, (and maybe this is because I work in A/V)- I wish they could play their video without having a big blue bar come on the screen with PLAY and PAUSE showing.  Most DVD players have an option to not show that.  Just took me out of the whole moment. After they finish the show, they turn the venue into a dance club and we stayed to try it out.  (I will review that separately.) Oh and they offer lap dances on stage with of course we jumped at the chance to get our bride one for $20 but by the end they only charge $5 - not cool.  We had already spent $25 each to get in plus the 2 drink minimum and it really added up.

I came here to meet some friends for a birthday party in the early evening. It was a casual get together (I checked with them and with the web site for Sugar to make sure casual attire was permitted) and it had been a busy month for me preparing for my big graduation show from art school (many sleepless nights and jam packed days designing my portfolios). As such, I had kinda let me haircut appointments slip away.  I started to get ready for a long overdue evening out, I got all dressed up which I had been dying to do for a couple months, but when it came to fix the rats nest of hair atop my head disaster struck. I decided to give up trying to make it look half way presentable after about half an hour and put on my signature trucker cap instead. I made it downtown running about 45 mins late due to the previous hair disaster and upon walking up to the door of Sugar I could see the gang inside. As I approached the door two guys were standing there blocking the entrance. Thinking it was just to check for ID I pulled out my license and they inspected it quickly. Then they told me I couldn't come in because I was wearing a cap. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! I quickly told the guy, "no way, that's ridiculous," and walked away. The place was practically empty except for our group and there was NO ONE waiting to get in this place on a Friday night. A few of my pals inside saw what was going on and came out to see what was happening. When I told them I wasn't allowed in because I was wearing a hat we all quickly decided to clear out  and go someplace that wasn't trying so hard to pretend it was some upscale LA style night spot that it isn't. This is San Francisco where people are allowed to wear/express themselves whatever fucking way they want. Caps for everyone! Check your line guys, no one is waiting to get into this dump and The Redwood Room you are not.

I used to live down the street, and probably went here to eat and have drinks 3 out of the 7 days in a week.  The food is good, and very reliable.   The waitstaff is friendly, but the bartenders are not.
