I was out visiting my best friend Keith F. out in San Francisco, and he had an idea to check out the Nightlife event. During the week I was in San Francisco, this may have been the most fun thing we did all week. True bromance. It's a pretty date heavy event with not a lot of singles, so it's not really much of a meat market. Fantastic place to take a date, though. Make sure you do a little pregaming, and then keep it going with the $6-10 drinks, depending on how much you want to class it up ($6 for beer, $7 wine, $8-10 mixed drinks). For the dudes: invite the best-looking and most museum-loving girl you know, and bring her to this. Get there around 6ish if you want to get tickets for the planetarium (I wasn't able to, but I've heard it's worth it). There's food there, so you don't have to take her out to dinner first. Plan on going to a bar or some other stop afterwards, at around 10. For the ladies: there's lots of good-looking people here, but if you don't want to be bothered, you won't be. Grab a friend or make the dude who keeps calling you pick you up at 5:30 and take a drive out to the Golden Gate park for a night out at the Academy of Sciences. Even if he's a quiet guy, you'll have plenty to do there to keep it moving along. Overall: I thought this place was great. They've taken a great thing (cool science museum) and made it even better by adding alcohol and a DJ. The DJ was spinning some pretty good lounge/dance music all night with people on the dance floor, and I had a lot of fun drinking and learning about Stellarium (you'll know when you go there), conservation, and marine life. Did I mention they serve alcohol at this place? Call up that girl or guy you've been waiting to take out on a date and go to this. It'll be a good night.

We ate at Strip during Midtown Restaurant Week. I suggested it to our group from a list of restaurants after I saw steak was on the menu (seriously, I'm not that hard to please). Restaurants participating in MRW offer discounted specials for $25, which is what we ended up ordering. Additionally, we ordered some drinks and an order of raw oysters. The oysters weren't bad. One person in our group thought they tasted too salty, but another who had eaten a lot of oysters said they were good. The first course of the MRW special was grilled chicken satay, which is three strips of grilled chicken with a peanut sauce. The chicken was juicy, and the peanut sauce tasted distinctly of (wait for it) peanuts, but it wasn't overpowering. Pretty good. Next up was what was described as a salad but was really a quarter head of lettuce. This puzzled me. When I started eating it, I thought there wouldn't be enough dressing and bacon to cover every bite, but I was wrong. When I got to the end of it, I was left with a goopy mess of dressing and tomato slices that went to waste. The main course was flatiron steak with mashed potatoes and steamed green beans. The green beans were fine, but the potatoes had a taste and consistency to them that seemed processed. Several people noted the processed taste of the potatoes. My flatiron steak was ordered medium rare, but was dry and parts of it were tough. Yeah, I'm aware that flatirons are more difficult to tenderize, but I've seen it done before. This was okay but not great. If this meal was always $25 I might be able to give Strip three stars and tell you "you could do worse," but knowing that I'd be dropping half a C-note for this meal normally means I can't really recommend it.

A true Latin party... People of all ages come. If there wasn't an age limit kids would be dancing too. This venue is by far the best place to dance Salsa.
