a friend of mine and i decided that we are the more adventurous eaters of our group and that we need to branch out to try more of the great restaurants that philly offers. our first place (on an ever-growing list) was morimoto. we knew before we got there we were doing the omakase menu, we just weren't sure if it should be the $80 or $120 version. our waitress was very nice, in my opinion, my friend thought she was pretentious. waitress wasn't really assisting on what we should do, she said the difference was a course and she gave us an outline that the first 3 are raw, next 2 cooked, sushi and desert for the $80 option. regardless, after some deliberating we decided to do the $80 and as long as it was decent we could come back another time to try the $120. we also did the $45 wine pairing, which was worth it for how much we got but yes otherwise you would assume it's pretty pricey. i really don't remember which wines we got, i will try to explain. first course - hamachi tar-tar - this was delicious, the tuna was so fresh and tasty and the soy-yuzu broth was so good we both spooned our bowls dry (unsure what the etiquette breach is on that). their was some wasabi on the side that tasted really good, we assumed it was fresh and neither of us probably ever had fresh before, what a world of difference! sparkling wine was paired that was very good. second - my absolute fave of the night, spanish mackerel (i believe) in a chili oil, lemon juicy broth...it was like ceviche so it was raw yet the acid sorta cooks it. white wine with nice acid. third - sashimi salad - i can't remember the type of fish we had but it was sashimi with a micro greens salad and some type of cooked onion mixture that was good, if a touch salty but i think that countered the fish in a good way. rose wine, i did not like this at all. fourth - sea bass in a fragrant broth - it was ok, tasted slightly oily to me but i think that's how i always think of sea bass. fifth - for me was black cod, which was sweet and tasted pretty similar to the one at buddakan, it was fine. my friend got duck with foie gras on this one, i mentioned to the waitress that i didn't eat red meat and she was thoughtful enough to come over and ask if i wanted duck or a different dish for this course, i choose against the duck but did try my friends, it was better than expected (i had a bad duck experience my first time). sixth - sushi course, 5 pieces, i don't remember too well. i think fatty tuna, salmon, white fish, sardine and giant clam...the sushi was excellently prepared. served with sake. seventh - green tea (matcha) ice cream cake with chocolate cake a top...mmmm. served with some type of champagne. by the end of the meal i was sooo full and pretty tipsy. neither of the cooked courses really wow-ed either of us but they were still good, we just preferred the raw courses.  most of the drinks were half-glasses and they only charged us for one wine pairing, unsure if that was on purpose or they assumed we wanted to split it, regardless, we were happy. i will definitely be back but i think i'd be more interested in trying the sushi sampler - a few tables around us has it and it looked great and it was only $30.

This is your place if you don't mind standing outside in the rain next to the homeless people for an hour before the security guards let you in. I think the worst part about this place is just the part before getting in. It's in a way ghetto neighborhood with very outspoken homeless people that won't let you ignore them. You can park your car in the lot at your own risk... Once you get in though, it's really a nice club. The first floor is huge and classy with a platform in the center with seating and sometimes, they have fashion shows here. There are 2 bars and both are fairly easy to get drinks at and they have gorgeous go go dancers. There's a small side room where they normaly have the strippers for the bachelorettes. I went in here once and it was a great show. My girls got nice dances from diff strippers and then the last stripper came out and decided to pick ME to dance with and he was THE raunchiest out of all of them! I'm a good girl, I'v never been to a stirp club ever so this was a shock to me. Um lets just say he did a lot of flipping me up in the air and the last position I landed in was him swinging his chacha right in front of my face and me catching a whiff of that smell from his chacha made me want to gag. Bsically, I couldn't have sex for weeks after cause of that smell. Ew! Anyway, downstairs is really nice too and spacious. The patio is huge! Not such a bad place.
