by Domingo Michener on I went last night for TIGERHEAT. First off, we waited in line for about 30 minutes, bought our tickets at the door, got inside... THEN were told the dancefloor is closed because of over capacity. When we were told it would be 2 hours before getting onto the danceflloor (We were supposed to wait in the lobby for 2 hours). While we were talking to the security guard he was letting in his friends right in front of us.. I asked for a refund, and that was out of the question. The first security guard snapped at me saying "I'll fucking kick you out" Uh.... So then we gave in and waited in line to get onto the dancefloor, My friend and I got in the wrong line.. there was a mass of people, and a rope dividing them.. How am I supposed to see a rope about 3 feet high in a crowd of people 5'-6' ?? So instead of security guard #2 telling us, he grabs me, shines a flashlight in my face and started screaming.. my friend jumps up in front of me and starts yelling at him back trying to defend me, and he takes both of us and THROWS us to the side. Then walks up security guard #3, whose name is "Kevin", he is all pissed cause he thinks i'm trying to get in line for 21+ room or whatever, and I tell him that i got in the wrong line, and was just grabbed and screamed at. It was so inappropriate and actually frightening. "Kevin" asks me if i'm going to press charges on that individual.. I say i'm going to the bathroom upstairs cause I'm not sure.. He now grabs me, and shoves me out onto the sidewalk. Apparently theyre response to an upset customer is throw them out on the street.. I'm not sure if Avalon's security is part of a security company or run by Avalon, but they seriously need to get fired. Right after me another guy got thrown out and CHOKED by "Kevin" right there on Vine St.. The police showed up and he filed a report.
by Dick Oeftger on I'd give this bar 5 stars because I had such a great night, but I'll give that credit to the fun group I was out with. I came to Greatest Bar Saturday of Halloween weekend expecting a big line. Aaaand a big line is what we found. My friends and I were able to come with a genius rotating plan which allowed some of us to warm up with some shots of tequila in Sullivan's tap while the others waited on line, then switch. Somehow I managed to spend very little time actually on line and a lot of time in the bar downing drinks...wooops. Perhaps it was my ninja turtle disguise that did the trick? Once at the front of the line we had to pay the $10 cover charge (no surprise there) and then went straight to the dance floor. I only made it up to one other floor and didn't realize until the next day that there were multiple more floors to explore. I didn't buy too many drinks but from what I heard they were fairly pricey. So 5 stars for a fun Halloween, 3 for an overpriced (but fun) bar!
by Michael G. on My girlfriend and I love this place. This is usually our back-up plan when Plan A fails. We usually go here w. friends or to get a few drinks in. No Cover and the drinks are good, but a bit pricey. If you come here pretty early.. Say 1030-11. You should be able to find seats and what not. Dance floor upstairs gets crazy packed during the weekend. Overall, not a bad place to kill time, have a few drinks and songs to dance to.
