Oh yum. Morimoto definitely lived up to the hype last night. First off, the ambiance was lovely even though my husband and I walked right past the restaurant initially. Really interesting wavy wooden ceiling, with an apparent separate dining area upstairs. I could do without the phallic light in the middle, but feh. The chairs are a bit too high even though I'm not particularly tall, I'm not really short either. Service was great. Right off the bat, Ben and his bar manager were very helpful and attentive. We opted for the mid-range tasting menu, and split a very nice bottle of wine that was recommended to us by the server. With the tasting menu at ($120 each) we received (please note some courses might be missing or out of order, remember the aforementioned delicious bottle of wine): 1. Toro minced with shallots, served in a cool soy based sauce, with caviar, wasabi and a japanese peach on the side. It was delicious, although maybe a bit much on the sauce. 2. Raw oysters, one with an orange salsa, the other with cilantro and the last in spicy jalapeno and soy sauce. The jalapeno overpowered the oyster, but the other two were very well balanced, and the oysters were obviously very very fresh. 3. My husband's favorite: a snapper carpaccio served with a citrus soy sauce, topped with fried ginger and garlic and micro cilantro. YUM. Really delicious. 4. Yellow tail sashimi with a microgreens salad. The sashimi was delicious and freshness was obviously the name of the game. 5. Palate cleanser of a blackberry soda. Namely blackberry syrup with sparkling water. Did it's job! 6. Half lobster served rubbed in "Morimoto's special seven spice blend" or some such. It's lobster, it is hard to screw up unless it is overcooked. Again it was delicious, although I generally prefer a plainer preparation of lobster, and I missed the tomalley and roe, but I know not everyone eats it, and it certainly wouldn't have looked as pretty on the plate. 7. American Kobe beef, served rare. It was certainly tasty. Very beefy with a nice buttery undertone, although not as delicious as the Wagyu we were able to get in Tokyo. 8. Selection of five sushi pieces including toro, squid, red snapper, yellow tail and one I'm forgetting. The rice was very fresh, and the fish all good. The squid though was amazing. It had a wonderful fresh flavor and great texture. 9. Dessert of a honey cake with peach sauce and white chocolate mousse. Every thing was small but beautifully presented. I saw that a previous reviewer indicated that he left hungry, but we both left very very full, and neither me nor my husband would be considered thin and we can both eat. The service was great, as mentioned. The courses were all well spaced and at one point the husband ran around the block to feed the meter and our server made a point of not serving the next course until he was back, seated, and situated. Certainly Morimoto won't be someplace we frequent often, but man, it would totally be worth it to really splurge at least once, and we have plans of sidling up to the sushi bar for some more snapper carpaccio and maybe some more sushi choices which seemed reasonably priced from our review of the menu.

Came here a few months ago to play some pool, and I had a great time. The crowd is nice, laid-back, and friendly, but the best part is the food. Come for the pool, but stay for the cheesebread and god, the calamari was so succulent ;)
