A friend and I were in the mood for some live jazz and good (moderately priced) food, so we let Rateclub guide us to Coda. We wandered in at around 9pm on Friday night without reservations (oops) and managed to get prime seating along the back wall. The atmosphere is fantastic - Shepard Fairey art covers a great deal of wall space; pretty chandeliers and lamps lend a sexy-but-cozy ambiance; the interior feels spacious and hip. Our server (Jonathan?) was INCREDIBLY helpful, especially considering our awful indecision. The wine was good (Pinot Noir on tap for me) and the food FAR surpassed my expectations! I had one of the specials (apparently no longer on the menu? A sincere travesty): ravioli stuffed with pear and goat cheese and topped with pesto sauce. YUM in my mouth. Not only was the presentation lovely, but the portion was perfect. And it. was. delicious. The band started playing a little after 10pm - I think they were called Shotgun Wedding Symphony - and we thought the website's description of "jazz and hip-hop" sounded awesome (plus I had heard great things about Jazz Mafia groups). Overall, not extremely impressed... it was pleasant, but I was expecting a much more vibrant performance. However, our fantastic dessert (fudge brownie with Humphry Slocombe peanut butter ice cream, doubleyum) and the HILARIOUS conversations at the table next to us more than made up for the lackluster performance. Other pros: SUPER attentive servers/staff (my water was refilled constantly!); great for people watching (the space is so open, it's hard not to watch/judge/eavesdrop); amazing menu in general. As a venue: 4 stars As a restaurant: 4 stars As the location for a fun evening with friend(s): unlimited stars (ugh, did I really just write that?!)

okay no lines since my girlfriends and i had got in just as it opened around 6ish.  not too fond of the waiting in the cold.  we had the place to ourselves and i must say the spot gets stars for the decor.  it's reminiscent of old hollywood with lush reds and high back booths that were reserved already (yes even when it was completely empty). apparently, the drink menu was not finalized yet when we arrived.  when it was, i asked him what was on it.  he proceeded to say how he didn't wanna bother rattling off 20 drinks and that if we told him what we liked and trusted him he would make us something.  i was tempted to get my standard g&t, which my roomie ended up getting.  instead i wanted to see what this mixologist would prepare.  i told him i like my drinks stiff and prefer gin.  don't think he gave my drink a name but it had sloe gin, plymouth gin and muddled orange.  it was fruiter than i thought for i drink i requested to be stiff.  it was fine, but not exactly what i was expecting. my other roomie request something with vodka.  her's was called a daisy renyolds, made of vodka, muddled orange, and mint.  her friend requested somethign sweet and received the ella (muddled watermelon, vodka, and st. germain) noticed all the specially made cocktails had muddle fruit.  it's pretty uninventive if you ask me.  the drinks tasted fine, but the mixologist was a little pretentious for our liking. note: $2 off signature drinks before 9pm

For a $25 cover on a Friday night I wasn't that impressed. Expect to give away your first born for a couple of drinks, the music to be good for dancing, but not great, and expect a couple run-ins with some sketchy men. The ambiance was cool with disco balls hanging from the ceiling and the entire bar illuminated in highlighter yellow. But...eh. I love to go clubbing...and I've been to much better places without the ultra high-end prices for a pretty average club scene. Going elsewhere next time in the meatpacking...
