by Nancy A. on I suggest you park your own car, OR don't leave ANYTHING in your car! I had cash stolen out of my trunk! I never carry cash and the one day I do, Valet takes it! I had cash in my purse, which I hid inside another bag, which was placed in my trunk....... As soon as valet brought me my car I open the trunk to grab my purse and found that they went through my entire trunk & opened my purse and took all my cash! Of course the Valet guys play dumb, like none of them did it & I'm SOL..... The Valet Company is CPS (California Parking Services), don't trust them!
by Daniela Montembeau on I have been to the Mayan only on Saturdays for the salsa night. The dancing is okay depending on the night or if there is an event, there are some sleazy people that go there so it can be creepy at times. It is $20/person. Though, with their membership pass it is pretty cheap, maybe that is how the sleazy people and drunks end up there. My boyfirend buys every year $150 membership pass, that gets him and a guest in for 6 months. The pass is not valid for special events, but my boyfriend buys it every year so we can watch the competitions, that is our little salsa tradition and the only time we go there. We buy the pass about the second week of the amateur/professional couple competition (early April, thought the competitions starts on about the last week of March and ends on about first week of May) so we get to go and use it for the team competion (from August to first week of October). Then, it would expire on the finals week for the team competition, but it doesn't matter since finals week is considered a special event it wouldn't be valid anyways. If you are into salsa, I do recomend to check it out at least once or even better during competition. It is world known becuase of the salsa competitions. On the competitions you get even a night for the Out of state and internationals competitiors than come here just to compete. They do have on Saturday one room downstairs where they play hip-hop but it is very small. Then there is another room upstairs for rock in spanish and reggeaton. They have bars in every floor.
by Mike S. on I came here not knowing what to expect... I left here not really expecting to come back... I don't mean to be overly harsh, but Bruno's wasn't really doing it for me that night. The live music was good, and I was glad the bouncer let me in w/ out paying the cover. The drinks were nothing special, and the bartenders did a fair job of handling the large crowd. Unfortunately, they had run out of a few interesting bottled beers. If I end up here again, I won't be disappointed. But I may try someplace new in the mission. I did not try the food while I was here.
