I would like to echo the earlier comments of Stacy E., Henry T., and Felecia P. The service is simply unacceptable for a restaurant as expensive as Aja is. I have eaten more than one dinner at Aja where I went 20 or 30 minutes without seeing my server. I began eating at Aja because of the Monday sushi special. This brings the price in line with the quality, but just barely. The sushi is on special on Monday because it is no longer fresh -- you are eating the leftovers of the weekend, and the quality is comparable to Ru Sans, with a heavy emphasis on fried rolls. My favorite thing on the menu is the Shrimp/Coconut soup, but at $8 for an appetizer portion of soup, it illustrates the poor value. The best thing about Here to Serve restaurants (including Aja) is their frequent discounting programs. One recent discount they offered was 2-for-1 gift cards. I ordered some gift cards online, which Here to Serve claims were stolen before I received them. Here to Serve refused to honor the original transaction (i.e. they refused to give me the quantity of gift cards which I had paid for). They did eventually agree to give me 75% of what I had paid for, which was still "a good deal" when combined with the original 2-for-1 discount. I reluctantly accepted that this was better than a cash refund, but Here to Serve simply did not care that they were not honoring the original transaction, leaving me feeling cheated. To me this is a sign of how they do business at all of their restaurants -- they SEEM to offer great discounts like 2-for-1 gift cards or $5 sushi rolls, but at the end of the day you struggle to get your money's worth even after the discounts, due to the poor customer service and food quality. In light of my recent transaction, the poor service, and mediocre food quality, I will no longer be visiting Aja or other H2S-affiliated restaurants. They are simply not as advertised, and seem more interested in nickel-and-diming their customers, instead of simply offering a quality product at a reasonable price.

I live in woodside and have been testing out the various pubs in the area, trying to find the one I like best. I do like Saints and Sinners as well, but I think Sean Og is my favorite. Ive only been there twice, both on Thursdays (karaoke night). Both times I went by myself just wanting to watch some sports and have a beer. Cut to four hours later...Ive sung about 4 songs, gotten a few free shots, gotten a few phone numbers from some ladies. This is the type of place you can go to and leave with a bunch of new friends. I have not been there on the weekends but it looks very crowded. But the bar is beautiful, the food is good and the people are friendly. What else can you ask for?

I have never really hung out at this spot, since it's WAY on the other side of town, but I did like the set up and the location, which is right next to The Ramp. But, since they never did much live music, I'd only been inside maybe twice, and one of those was for a wake after the funeral of a dearly departed friend. Recently, however, there's been a change in ownership and management, and the new regime wants to do live music, particularly my brand of Hard 'n' Heavy. So, I received a call to meet with said ownership/management to discuss the idea, and to see if I'd like to get involved. Right away, I was impressed with the friendly, open and no-nonsense approach of the new Boss. I signed on immediately. Since then, we've become good friends, and we put on a great REALITY CHECK TV Live Showcase Event, with SAINTS OF RUIN, RUBBERSIDEDOWN and THE BUTLERS. The new Boss loved it, despite only moderate attendance. We'll be doing more TBA! As far as the particulars--a brand-new, kick ass sound system that equals or surpasses ANY rig in SF. Believe me, I know the difference. There's a top-notch kitchen also, and as someone who does a lotta cooking, the food rocks. I had blackened catfish for lunch at one of our meetings, and it was superlative. All in all, I'm glad the ROCK is coming to Mission Rock, and I'm proud to be a part of it. Thanx to all at MRC!!!
