I recently went here for dinner and a show, and really loved the whole night. I don't know if it was the company of my date or the artist (Anthony David who I love love love), but I had an amazing time! We preordered our tickets so we could pick our seats (in front to the right), and paid the additional $20.00 on each ticket to include our deposit in our dinner. We made our reservations and they called to confirm and to tell us to pick up our tickets and $40.00 credit voucher first. I thought that was thoughtful to remind us of the need to know info. The ambiance is pretty swanky and we were seated in a dimly lit booth, for 2. For food, we some sort of Kobe Beef Tartar, which I loved, and for $13, I didn't feel like it was outrageous. We then had the Crazy Spicy Kamikaze roll, which was a bit small, but still really really good. We also ordered the Lamb Chop shared plate, which came with spinach and wild mushrooms and 2 orders of rice. The food was small in portion but really hit the spot. With dinner we ordered one of each of the sake samplers and had fun sharing them all and reading the cards to each other (cheesy is my middle name)! After dinner we had a couple of drinks and the bartender was accommodating and super funny. We then headed to the show, which was awesome. We were seated at a table with 2 lovely ladies and had a really awesome time. We ordered a large bottle of house hot sake and a large asahi to share and that lasted the whole concert. All together for dinner, drinks and a show, it came out to be around $200. I had an amazing time, and feel like it was a night to remember... Priceless!

I really wanted to like this place, but alas this is just a tourist hot spot that was made famous by the Buddha statue in many popular TV shows like Sex and The City. Even with reservations, expect to wait half an hour at the often packed bar area where you feel like you are in some darkly lit bus terminal station waiting for the next bus to arrive.  This place is also incredibly loud as the  music here is more suited for a club than a fine dining experience. This Chinese fusion joint tries to separate itself with some innovative twists on some very classical Chinese cuisine.  We ordered the Lobster Wontons, Hong Kong XO Shrimp, Peking Duck, XO Chinese long beans and the Thai Fish Hot Pot. The Lobster Wontons were as you expect, wrapped in thin dough and set in a mild soup stock they were tasty, but nothing very special.  The Peking duck was a bit of a disappointment as the skin and meat of the duck were not as flavorful at some of the restaurants that serves it in Chinatown.  The Thai Fish Hot Pot was so tangy that we had to add water to it to thin it out.  The Hong Kong Shrimp was ok, but I have had the same dish in Chinatown for 1/3 of the price!   The long beans and rice felt like they belonged on a mass produce airline tray than a restaurant.  Long beans were mushy and the rice was flavorless. The service was ok as our waiter did take our orders when we sat, but we barely got our water filled and needed to look for our waiter when it came time to pay our check. Overall the experience was lacking on all fronts.  The food was average, the decor was a bit garish, the noise was way too loud and I'm not even sure what the attraction is of Big Buddha...I've been to Hong Kong and I've seen Big Buddha first hand... With so many good Chinese restaurants in Chinatown serving food at 1/3 the price of this joint, I shall not return.

This place stares at me from across the road as I slog away on the stairmaster machine, and sometimes the tempation of an after-workout beer proves too much. It's a somewhat nondescript place, too big to be cosy and lacking a certain character. It's not ultra-divey, but very unpretentious and the clientele is authentic. Can occasionally get invaded by groups of students on a pub crawl. The pool tables have seen better days, but if you are in the neighbourhood and need a beer and a quick frame then you could do worse.
